Are you happy with your digital speedometer ? Could you tell me where you bought it ? I'd love to have one on my K-9. Thanks![]()
I just installed mine this morning and I used the new hot wire as the instructions say. Once the speedo is back in the case you don't see much of that new wire.Dear Mr. Morris,
I am in the process of installing a Medaliion on my 2007 K-9.
Quick question....
The instructions want you to run a live hot wire from the battery to the new 4 pin connector. You may remember that the original 3 pin connector had a red (hot), black (ground) and green (speed sensor).
Medallion wants you to to cut back the red and black wires. Only the green and new live hot red are to be used in the new 4 pin connector.
Question, "Did you use the the original swithched hot (red) in the new 4 pin connector OR did you use the live hot wire harness as the new hot wire?"
The new live hot wire harness is not pretty. I'd rather use the original switched red hot wire if possible since it is already part of the wiring harness.
Thanks, Cor.
I just installed mine and went for a test ride this morning. Have you noticed around 5k the tach seems to lose signal or something?Yep, got an update. I got my upgrade from Medallion last week and had it in by Saturday. Wow, I can see the speed at night, additional functions are great.
1. You can have it read MPH on the outter dial and the needle is a great blue color (RPM is in window, digital).
2. Or switch to have RPM on outer dial (speed in window, digital). Needle turns red
3. you can vary brightness manually or use its auto mode.
4 dual trip odometers, and regular odometer.
5 a service mode (not sure what this does)
I am very, very pleased with the display, it's a million times better than the Big Dog speedo.
They currently have only an aluminum bezel and it's not polished well (see my picture of it side view). I was pressed for time or I would have buffed it to look like my chrome housing.
When I got the speedo upgrade, I put it on and found that the big (8 pin I think) connector was perfect (same wire colors as the originals), but the retrofit came with a 4 pin connector not a 3 pin as it should be. My solution was this: I saw that 2 of the wires on the new 4 pin were just like 2 of the wires in the big dog 3 pin connector (read that as 2 of the 3 wires were the same). The 3rd wire on the BD plug was black (normally a ground).
I went to my 2009 service manual and looked at the 2009 Mastiff AND the 2009 Wolf (Wolf has this new speedo in it). I found that the 2 wires in the 4 pin connector that were a mismatch were a fuel gauge and a sensor of some sort (Mastiff and K9 don't have these functions).
I cut the Medallion 4 pin plug down to 2 pins and taped the two connectors together. (visualize that I now have a 2 pin Medallion modified plugging into the 3 pin stock BDM connector).
It worked flawlessly, Medallion asked me to tell them what I did and they will get this message.
I will probably take it apart since we are having some bad weather again and polish the Medallion bezel. While I have it apart, I will take pictures of the slight modification.
I cannot give any contact info yet, but will tell you that they intend to make an even more featured version with variations on the face.
They said I was the 1st one to get this. I suspect that I got the part they were showing to the BDM factory.
Guys, I can't even begin to tell you how great this is. Well worth any cost you have to pay. This is what a very high dollar custom would have, only better...
I took the pictures with my iPhone and was unable to get rid of the flare (which is the oil light). It looks great in person.
Notice that Medallion put my current miles on it. I was very happy for that.
I called this guy but he is not longer selling it he told me to go to BDM so is not for me at their price.Don't give BDM the time of day.
Buy the Medallion speedo upgrade directly from Medallion Instrumentation. They sold it to me and I have been extremely happy with it.

Crap, not cool. Looks like I'll have to get the D digital in red. Was looking forward to having a working dial again...I called this guy but he is not longer selling it he told me to go to BDM so is not for me at their price.
Yes, I also expereince this problem sensing rpm. Also the needle bounces a lot when the analog gauge is displaying the rpms.I just installed mine and went for a test ride this morning. Have you noticed around 5k the tach seems to lose signal or something?
My old speedo was having all kinds of problems but this one seems to be working except for the higher rpm. I'm not sure if its because I'm only at that rpm for a second or not
I never could get any response from Medallion directly. I had to order the instrument through the BDM website.I called this guy but he is not longer selling it he told me to go to BDM so is not for me at their price.
Your saying you lose the speedo when you get on it?? Mine did that when I passed some punks that pissed me offI haven't noticed any needle bounce on mine. I changed the ignition to the Thunderheart adjustable and it seemed to help with the loosing signal some at least when I wind it up now. I've got to put some miles on it to see what it does on a decent ride.
I like the look of the medallion a lot and it is easy to read. I also like the dual trip odometers and the one for maintenance.
I'm guessing once I do the Wiring upgrade to remove the ECH it will fix the rest of my problem
..LOL It was stuck on 65 and when I slowed back down..it took 4 miles
