leaking fluid and no neutral

I have a 2008 Mastiff with 5000 mi service on it. The warranty was up so I had the service done with a friend of a friend who has been working on bikes his whole life. He asked if I wanted synthetic or regular oil. We decided to go with synthetic b/c I didn't know what was used with the other services. I got the bike back and couldn't find neutral unless rolling but didn't have that problem before. I brought it back to him and we saw a leak coming from the drive shaft. He changed my tranny oil back to regular and still had the problem with getting it back into neutral. I just got home and it's still leaking from under the bike. Not sure if changing from reg to synthetic has anything to do with these problems. Anyone help?

Using synthetic fluids shouldn't be the cause of the leak. Many folks here use it in the motor and transmission but not the primary. Ask what kind of oil he used for the primary, if it is synthetic that could be causing your issue with finding neutral. As for the leak I would say something is overfilled or not tightened correctly.

Agree, sounds like your trans is over filled (easy to do)...neutral issue is likely your clutch adjustment; several how to's on here on how to get it adjusted correctly.

syth isn't causing the leak. what type of fluid did you put in the primary - curious for clutch/neutral finding?

He said he used synthetic in the motor, trans and primary. After seeing the leak, he changed the trans fluid back to regular. So I guess there is still synthetic in the primary. I'll have to have that changed back to reg. Purple Dog, I'm in Raleigh too. I'll be bringing my dog to CC Performance tomorrow to get it looked at. I'm hoping to have better luck there. I'm looking at the receipt now for my service. He's got 5 qts of 20-50 AMS gear oil and 1 qt of AMS gear oil..

I'm not familiar with CC Performance; I used to run synthetic in Primary with stock clutch before I realized some recommend against it.
20 oz capacity in the trans (if memory serves - i've got the manual here somewhere and sure its listed here in old threads). Easy to overfill with that capacity and it will blow it out the vent if so - been there.
I can help you get it squared away if you'd like to bring it over; PM me to setup time if interested. I've got lift/tools etc.
Twin Specialties could set you straight as well if your set with dealer service, but Joe's crew stays fairly busy in the summer months.
I'm running BelRay Gear Saver transmission oil 80W in the primary (only because our local source didn't stock the Bandit recommended 75W) without issues with my Bandit Bruiser clutch. Is your bike creeping in first with the clutch pulled in at red lights?
Anyway, let me know if you'd like some help with it...

btw: 1 - qt primary, 20 oz trans, ~3 1/2 qt motor w/filter (spec capacity is 3). Sounds like he's got 1 qt too much in there somewhere...
