Will not start......

Energy One
Ok guys I need help...... My bike had a battery tender on it all winter..... I tried to start it and it was turning over fine but didn't fire..... Then it stopped turning over..... With the switch on, the headlight and turn signals will not work and it will not turnover..... The running lights work as well as lights on speedo, and license plate light.....is the battery shorted out? If it a efi problem? Is it a starter problem?

did you have a stabilizer in the gas over the winter? not firing could just be stale gas. gas with ethanol goes stale fast. try putting in some fresh gas.
if you have comp. releases, manually depress them to make sure they are working.
even on a tender, the battery does get a little weak. could just not be enough to start it.

Let me clarify.... I hit the starter button now and it will do nothing.....Turnsignals, horn, headlight will not work...... But runing lights and speedo lights are on

Check the wires going into the starter. Happened to mine. Soldering gun fixed it. The green wire is something like a 16 gua...

sounds like your ehc just took a shit!!! try and see if you have power comming out of your ehc to your turn signals, you can also follow your wires back from your starter and see if the power is even there????? does the red light on your ehc light up when you hit the "run" button??

DO A LOAD TEST ON YOUR BATTERY,COULD BE SHORTED INTERNALLY.
:up:THE BATTERY WILL SHOW A GREEN LIGHT ON THE TENDER ,BUT STILL BE NO GOOD.

Nothing is lighting up on the ehc.......... Will the ehc affect the horn, and turn signals and headlight? Everything else seems to have power

I'm in Berkeley springs, fiber...... I would appreciate any help..... I checked all of my battery connections. The ehc light will not come on....... No headlight, no turn signals

Clean your connections at the battery terminals and have the battery load tested. If your battery is over 3 years old it maybe time for a new one.

Check your CB also disconnect your battery, this may reset everything...Worth a try!

Unhooked battery , check connections.... Still nothing...... How can I check the ehc? This sounds like it's going to be expensive...... A new ehc or wire plus...... Damn damn damn......

Pull your battery, take it in and have it tested first. No reason to worry about the EHC until you eliminate the battery. Go cheap first, if you research a bit you will see new batteries end up resolving many problems.

WVOutlaw,

I live near Martinsburg or about 24 miles from you. If you are not able to get it going here in the next few days, I can arrange to meet up with you this weekend and shoot over your way and see if I may help. Maybe between the two of us, we can fumble through it and get it taken care of.

Recommend that you work through some of the ideas presented on here first and not get too frustrated. Since it has been sitting, good chance the battery may have bit the dust. Still take it down to parts store, Sears or somewhere and have the battery fully tested including cell shorts and loads.

Since it was initialy turning over and then stopped, but still had some juice to running lights, good chance it is battery. Battery tenders are great and I use one also, but since it was on for awhile, and age of battery, it could be just worn out and trying to awake her from the winter nap took it down. They do not last more than a couple of years on average, even when kept on BT. I've had to change mine on average every 3 years.

Let me know what you find out, but if nothing else, could shoot you way this weekend, Sunday is best for me, but early Saturday is not out of question. May even be better, in case you need to make run to Full House for parts.

I will send you cell phone number later via private message. Good luck but hang in there and try not to get too frustrated.
