Hw do you "limp home" with a broken cable? I never once was able to "limp home" with a broken cable, after three of them. I have over 7000 miles on my hydraulic clutch with zero issues so far. It has a dramatically easier pull and I "never" have to adjust it, unlike my cable system. Not to mention no exposed cables is dramaticaaly sweeter looking than a cable. Don't go ballistic on me please I am just asking for real life examples because if hydraulic clutches do have issues I would like to be prepared in advance. Also, since I have pipes that lay over the clutch adjustment access the pipes have to be removed to replace the clutch cable, not something I want to do with a simple tool roll on the side of the freeway. Any intelligent, accurate responses would be greatly appreciated.
I believe "limp home" is a generic term. When there is something wrong with the bike and you do what you have to get it home or safe.
Limp home with a broken clutch cable... can be done. I had to do it when my basket nut came loose. The cable wasn't so much broken but useless. I was able to sometimes shift as the basket walked in & out on the trans input shaft splines. Did what I had to, to avoid traffic lights, moreso the red ones. I rode with a buddy one time that broke his clutch cable... stayed in third and did the same thing I did.
Lee, recently, limped his bike home when he shredded up his final drive belt. Easy on the throttle, etc.
My HD has a limp home mode. When my fly by wire throttle went whacky it put the bike into "limp home" mode. Bike ran fine but only had 50% throttle open via the ecm controlling the throttle body. Rode it 40 miles that way, even on the highway...
