Have you checked for current on the negative cable while cranking the bike? Sounds like you have power feeding back through your negative post or you have a positive wire grounding out. That's just a thought but I'll leave the electrical to Marv and Dead.

have you checked the other end of you ground cable to make sure that it's tight. this has happened before and I believe this is what it turned out to be.

If the battery terminals were not tight, the lead will melt....I've now done it twice...... Smoke pouring out from under the seat....... You sure they are both tight?

Nope. That comes from a bad battery connection at the battery or at the opposite cable ends. Sorry

You mean I finally got something right?

....Damn, now how lucky is that!

Thanks Dream :2thumbs:

Are you sure? Let's see, if you divide ohms by amperage, don't you get the square root of volts? That's what you learned me at home school.

JK Dead. You've forgotten more than I'll ever know about that. That's why I have you on speed dial!:whoop::cheers:

 Sorry Brother, Starters don't put out any juice! They just suck it all in!

Next:
Did you check both ends of the connections for tight and no corrosion on the positive battery cable? Ones on the battery and the other end is on the starter solenoid.

ok thanks i'll check for corrosion on the starter..so theres no way my starter could be causing this issue?

I just had my starter rebuilt and the bearings had gotten water in them and they rusted. In short, there could be all kinds of hidden corrosion in that thing and that might be a cause. Any good starter shop should be able to rebuild it. Is the starter the original?

ok thanks i'll post back tomorrow what i find...thanks alot:cheers:
Tomorrow?...WTF is wrong with TODAY? :bang::bang::bang:

J/K

If you find that you have good connections at both ends, the battery and at the starter. Disconnect "only" both of the EHC red & black (power & ground) wires from the battery, and disconnect the "push on" green wire from the starter solenoid. Make damn sure the bike is "NOT" in gear, and jump the male push on connector of the starter solenoid the the large "constantly hot" battery connection on the starter solenoid.

If it cranks over, your issue is somewhere else.

NOTE: BE VERY CAREFUL FROM HERE ON!

If no cranky, then jump the two big leads on the solenoid together.

If it cranks then, the solenoid needs rebuilt or replaced.

If still nothing, the whole starter needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

checked all connections they are clean and tight..my bike turns over just fine but what happens is i get smoke from the negative battery post and if i do it long enought it'll melt the battery post.do u still want me to jump the starter solenoid?

Sorry, got too many battery and starter issues going on at the same time. :loony:...

Nope, don't jump!

Sounds like internal solenoid contacts need to be cleaned or replaced if all the connections are good and clean. :2thumbs:

no problem...so i"m taking the starter off and sending it to rebuild shop? no other tests to do with it on the bike right?
