I own a 2008 105th anniversary Harley Davidson Road Glide with 1,800 miles on it. I bought it in March of 2008. It is immaculate. I am "seriously" considering trading it in for a new, left over 2008 Big Dog Ridgeback. It will be a cash deal, no financing. The NADA blue book has my trade listed at $15,980: low retail. $19,775: average retail. The Big Dog dealer offered me $16,000 and some change for my trade. The NADA has the 2008 Ridgeback listed (if I was trading it in used), $18,540: low retail. $24,390: average retail. The dealer told me the Ridgeback goes for about $31,000 brand new. His first offer for me to pay was $13,090.00, "out the door". Taking into consideration the bike will depreciate $6,610.00 the very second I roll it onto the street in front of the dealership. Also the fact that the bike is a left over, and has been sitting 'somewhere' for an entire year and 2 months. After some negotiation, the dealer's 2nd "out the door price" offer to me was to pay $12,090.00. Also keep in mind, my motorcycle insurance will increase another $360.00 a year, making it $890.00 for a 12 month policy, with full coverage. It was $530.00 for a 12 month policy for the Harley, with full coverage. Searching the internet, I can only find 2 Big Dog dealers in the state of Florida. This local shop and the other shop is about 90 miles north in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jacksonville shops web site states they too have 2008 Ridgebacks in stock. The local dealer says this is his best offer. I am thinking of sticking to my bottom line of $11,090.00 out the door. Any advice or suggestions is very much appreciated.

I would talk to Tonya (DragginH) at Tamp Big Dog. I haven't heard of any customers not being totally happy with their shopping experience there. Prolly worth the drive to get a fair deal. My .02cents.

I would say 11k extra is the max. That puts you at 27k which is about what I paid for my k9 in Sept 07 before tax.
I think a Ridgeback goes for a little less than a K9.

Call the Big Dog dealer in orange county ca. They have new 2008 R.B.s for under 23000. Even with freight you might be way ahead.

Tampa? I was only able to find 2 dealers in Florida. Is it a full fledged Big Dog dealer? Tampa's a bit far from me. I'll have to call and see what they have in stock if I did decide to go there. It's about 3 hours away, 1 way. I'm north of the Daytona Beach area. If all goes good, I'll be visiting this forum a whole lot more of the time. I am "done" with Harley Davidson, forever. You'd figure they'd be dying to finally get rid of an 08 left over. He has alot of other 08 left over's in stock too. Even 2 07's. I still feel he could negotiate me an even better out the door price than $11,090.000. My inital bottom line was $10,000.00 out the door, not $11,090.00. This is a beach town. No one here's fork'in over this kind of money in a tourist town. He told me he sold 2 Big Dog's today, yea right. He wouldn't still have so many in stock a year and 2 months later if they were selling. I appreciate all the advice. Keep it coming.

There's supposed to be a $2K rebate on '08 Ridgebacks in addition to whatever deal you make. I assume this trade difference accounts for that? If not, make sure you get it. I think this dealer's bluffing with no cards...I'd hold out for your number. If he's smart, he'll go for it..especially in this economy! If he treats you right, he'll get his money back over the next few years on service work/accessories from you anyway, plus future trade-in maybe.

Just from reading his thread, he's already dealing with Carl's.

"Is Tampa a full fledged Big Dog Dealer" - They've been the number 1 Big Dog Dealer in the country for many years in a row.

Doesn't sound like he is lowering his price at all. BDM website lists 2k manufacturers discount on NOS '08 Ridgebacks. If the bike you are looking at has a MSRP of 31K... well, you do the math.

Dispatch, don't get in a hurry. You'd be much better off to sell your bike outright and buy the Ridgeback in a cash deal. I know, I just traded for an '08 model less than six months ago.

if your by Daytona they have a dealer that we stopped and checked out while we were at Biketoberfest. They were very nice people. Saves you a trip to our side of the state at least.

My only other advice....

Have fun with your new bike!

Yes, it is Carl's Speed Shop I speak of. I've been dealing directly with the owner Carl himself. Carl is not really making me a good honest deal, good for him not for me. I know $12,090.00 is more than it's worth(with my trade in). He can say what ever he wants, a left over is a left over. It sounds good about Tampa. I am off on Wednesday and Thursday. I will call them to get a heads up (I'll ask for Tonya), and see what they actually have, then maybe I can sort of cut a deal with her maybe over the phone. I can use what Carl has offered and see if she'll go for what I want to pay. Maybe That way all I have to do is trailer the Harley to them with the title and I'm done. Besides, it was a red candy with multi-color flame. I wasn't really crazy about the color. Now the electric blue with black flames, now that's the stuff! Only problem is the one he has in that color is an 09. He won't budge on an 09 I figure. I was hoping a Big Dog dealer might read this post and say "I have an 08 left over, I'll sell you it for $11,000.00. out the door with your trade, come on in". Maybe Tonya will, I'll see. If I do for bike week, maybe we can do a get together. It's only a couple of weeks away. Thanks for all the advice. Keep it coming.

Low Down Chop Shop
Haus Of Trikes and Bikes in Fort Myers FL has a 2008 Ridgeback on the floor. They have been a BDM dealer for about 8-9 months. They have this bike discounted like $8,000, down to somewhere around $22,000 brand new.

It is silver and blue if I remenber right with flames.

Chris @ the Haus hooked CURDOG up on his trade in!!!
