Fork Inspection

I disassembled my first fork tonight in my life. What a greasy pig.:D Reminds me of a blown up transmission or rear end. Quite a bit of wear for 8300 miles. The oil was very milky and full of bearing material. The fork cylinder is fine. The fork tube has some scarring and two indentations side by side that are strange. Looks like it's going to need replaced. Between the abrasions and the wear I just don't trust it since it's definitely in the seal travel area. The bushing is worn to copper so it needs replaced. I'll go ahead and replaced the valve seals while I'm in there. This is my first, you guys that have some experience feel free to chime in and tell me what you think.

Yep, our good ex-member Dogvet always said to replace those bushings and seal more often then the recommended 10,000 mile interval.
Mine I did after 30,000 and learned the hard way. Had to have new tubes (expensive) and all the bushing and seals.
So with this new set I will be doing them more often.
It has to do with the longer front ends and the leverage they create. Looks like you have fun Vegas!!

Not out of the question at this point.....I need to check prices on parts. I'll look into it.

If I remember correctly he asked to be removed from this site. I believe his wife said that we were all posers here because we rode Big Dog's and not fully custom bikes. Hated to see him go but he did ask to be removed.
