Thinking of putting the HSR 45 on my 05 Bulldog - anybody got any views on how well this would work? which air cleaner do you think would be good with it?

You have a E or a G now? Do the XXX thing to it and you will like it. Have you any performance mods to the motor that you need a bigger carb? I have an 04 bulldog, ported, bigger valves, 650 woods cam, ect, still use stock G-carb. Will upgrade to the XXX i think in the winter.

without trying to sound a complete idiot how do you know if it is a E or a G? no engine mods to speak of - do you think it would be over carbed? is the XXX good then? what about air cleaner?

I think 05 and newer are the E carbs. I have the spike, some guys have problems with these, I have not as of yet. Get one that flows alot of air. You have no reason the get a bigger carb, just XXX it, that will do just fine for better response. many treads on here about it. I don't know if the carb is stamped with the E or G. I know the G is a bigger carb, but think they both work well.

I thought it was only the 2005 bikes have the super E and restrictor plates. And is also the same year they took the cam from 600 to 569

My 04 had a 5 something cam in it when we opened it up. I think lower 5's if my brain doesn't fail me. But I've been wrong before. Definitly not the 600.

I talked to Bob from xXx this weekend in their booth at the Lone Star rally...Branden is no longer with them. xXx still cranks out the killer carbs though, and in my humble opinion it is money well spent. I went up to a 600 cam, but stayed with the E carb, just the xXx chrome version. I gots no complaints!

Yeah, I think it was Ray that told us about the change in management.

I thought the rally was in San Diego this weekend? I know Wicked Image and Westbury are somewhere at some rally this week.

Hey hey hay. What am I missing out on here? I heard my name mentioned.

I spoke with Bob last week and knew that we was at the Lone Star Rally all week.

As for the 05's. They all came with an "E" carb and had the restrictor plates in the manifold. They were easy to remove so no problem there. All other years used the G. Seems they went to the E to meet EPA requirements then figured out that there was no difference in the E or G so went back to the G in 06.
As for the "E" carb I find it not limiting on my 117" motor. I had the G on my 03 and my E preforms just as well.
The Triple X website has a lot of info on how the E will preform better for everyday riding than the G. Something about velocity of a smaller bore being better at slower speeds. The G being better at high rpm's, something my bike doesn't see much of.

As for the Triple X option....... I fully supported them back in 05 when everyone was spending over $400 to upgrade to the G carb when you could spend a hundred and have your E bored out and boosted.
Now with all the those of you that have the G my personal opinion is that you don't need more carburation on our motors. But the chrome bling is nice. :D

Anyway, enough about carbs. Where is the boobs?????

Later,
Ray

very straight forward then! can anyone do a how to on removing the restrictor plates please? will removing them mess up the mixture? if I put a 600 in will anything else have to be done or will it go straight in and work?
Raywood - you need "sportsbybrookes.com" - let the pics speak for themselves

I think some of the other guys have pics of the restrictor plates. All you have to do to remove your exhaust and intake to pull the plates out. While you're doing it you might want to think about replacing those gaskets too.

Lee, first you will need to order the replacement plates. The plates are a little to thick and would leak without the replacement plates. In the photo's below you can see the new open plate over the restricted one. They are only between the intake manifold and head. There are no restrictors on the exhaust side. Easy to pull.
As for the .600 cam I guess it depends on what you are looking for. There is a thread here with two dyno sheets. One of a bike with the .600 and some other work and the other is mine with a stock motor and they two are only a few HP difference. Not worth it to me. The .600 only works better at 4000 rpm and above. My motor doesn't see this rpm range much if at all.
Just depends on what you want and how much money you have.

Ray

Lee, did you buy your bike new? If not and you bought it used I would bet the plates have been removed. Not many around anymore that I hear of.

I bought the bike used - to my knowledge he had already changed the cam to a "mild" cam and had the carb rejetted - there is also an aftermarket exhaust and I don't even know what it is - no markings on it at all
Thanks for your help Ray

think I might go with the tricked, polished Super E from triple x and maybe a forcewinder - sounds like a good start
Thanks again for the advice
