Looking for a EHC replacement for a 2003 bigdog Pitbull

The 2003 Big Dog Motorcycles were more uniformly wired per unit. And the SECOND Electronic Harness Controllers (EHC) , BD4030-1B was introduced. The Electronic Harness Controllers (EHC) was manufactured for BDM by an outside contractor. Due to the ’03 EHC was such a close duplication to the previous Thunder Heart Controller. Big Dog Motorcycles was forced to stop the production of this unit due to an issue of possible copyright infringement.

My 03 has both . 4030-1B and a Thunder Heart .. not sure what that means ?
But the previous owner(s?) Have been in there hacking shit from what I can tell .. It's worked as is for me for 3 years. I haven't messed with it .. But someday LMAO !!
The thunder heart does light up . Once the power feed for it that's spliced in separated at the splice and bike wouldn't fire and of course the red led wasn't coming on eighter . Once repaired it took right off .20250725_125618.jpg

The Thunderheart unit is the ignition module and other is clearly the EHC (electronic harness controller).

Earlier models as well have the thunderheart. Believe it or not they are still available & work better than the newer EHC’s… just my opinion mind you.

You like the ThunderHeart RHC better? I’m just exploring information so I can make the best decision. I’ve got an IronHorse that currently needs the RHC and the Daytona TC 88 AIH replaced, again. I think I’ve decided to replace the wiring harness because what else could take out a new RHC, New ignition, and the digital dash all at once? But when I decide what to go with I’m gonna get 2 from what I’ve seen the EHC on my Ridgeback is subject to go bad as well.

Hmmm I would say a bad VR could certainly cause you to fry all those at once depending on how everything is wired together. I should probably check that on my Ironhorse to see what I have on my Texas chopper. My 2000 Vintage Sport has the Thunderheart and it is a solid choice. I have a spare in case I ever need it. My Ridgeback has the Axle EHC from Curtis @ Wildsteedworx & I have a spare for that bike also. Not really sure about the’96 Vintage Classic but I expect it has the Thunderheart also. Hope you get it all sorted out PapaStein!

I appreciate the good vibes. I will get it at some point. I need to make a decision and get my parts but even then I have a lot of issues slowing me down. I had given great consideration to the v r but they are either good or bad but not back and forth, is that correct? I know ThunderHeart will include the new harness for just a little more $$. I am comfortably familiar with the ThunderHeart wiring details so I will go with them on the 05 Tejas. Thanks for the information. Ride Easy.
