After a few great rides with her running strong, I thought I would start her up today and it won't start!!!! I checked the EHC lights up, ignition module lights up, I have spark (shocked the shit out of me too) and fuel is going to the carb. Do I just drop the carb bowl and blow it out or how do you guys clean your carb out?

If I get her started beers are on me!!!!

If plugs are wet, it may not be a carb issue.

Are you using non ethanol gas?

Try putting a little gas directly in cylinder while plugs are removed. Install plugs try to start. (If plugs are dry)

If bike starts, carb needs cleaned. If not, problem is likely an electrical issue or other mechanical issues.

If you determine carb needs cleaned, I personally disassemble and clean every passage. Sometimes you can cheat and simply drop bowl and clean jets.

Good luck Bud

Crack the throttle, we need to know if gas is making it into cylinder before disassembling carb Bud.

Follow the steps I listed above first before removing bowl.

OK I cracked the throttle before pulling each plug and they are dry. I'll drop the bowl tomorrow. I did some work on the paint saver maybe some debree got into the tank even though I had it plugged up pretty well. Isn't there a screen in the petcock though?

You need to find out where the problem is. Shut off gas at the tank. Remove fuel line feeding carb. Put line in a bottle turn gas back on. No flow / low flow. Clean or replace petcock. Good flow then clean carb. It only takes a small piece of debris to clog jets or vent passage.

You mentioned earlier that you do have gas at the carb.

One thing worth mentioning Bud, you can disconnect the fuel line at the carb.

If you have a good steady flow of gas that will allow you to skip the tank, screen, petcock cleaning duty.

If you are going to just drop bowl and not perform a full cleaning, at least remove and thoroughly clean jets. Spray some seafoam through the passages.

Hope this helps getting the old girl barking again!

Thanks guys. I'll work on her today.
I'm sure glad I don't have my stage one filter kit installed, taking that off and on all the time would be a major pain in the ass.

To run you need Compression, fuel, spark and timing. From your description and explanation it is most likely a fuel issue. Pull the hose and see if you get fuel to the bowl first. If it gets to the bowl drop the bowl. If it's dry inside your float valve is stuck closed if it's wet inside the most likely problem is clogged jets. Caution: when you drop the bowl there is a small blue doughnut on top of the ejector nozzle. Make sure you don't loose it and be sure to replace it when putting the carb back together. Also double check your float valve for proper operation they can stick intermittently.

FYI , cracking the throttle alone will not get fuel to the spark plugs if the engine is not running. Pull the air cleaner and look down the intake for fuel squirting.

OK I'll check the gas on the plugs but it will not even turn once while cranking as if it was completely out of fuel or had no spark. Since I know it sparks because it shocked my ass across the garage it must be fuel. I have fuel to the bowl. I'll drop the bowl this afternoon and get back to you guys. I'll check the gas flow before I do that Mike.
I think I need an inline fuel filter just before the bowl, is that a good idea?

I think it’s a good idea. Sure can’t hurt. Mine’s just after the petcock. IMG_4179.jpeg
