Well I couldn't find a wiring problem onm my OEM speedo so I bought this one. Anyone who has installed one please chime in even if it was plug and play and works fine.

I don't have a problem with the install, but the calibration worries me a bit. It has "AUTO" calibrate and a few manual options. It also will need my odometer reading and I'm wanting to keep that accurate.

You mechanics please chime in with any experience, or not but with suggestions on calibrating. I'm not sure the 300 rear tire is suited for AUTO calibrate but I don't know. It says if you fuck it up the odometer can "INCREASE VERY RAPIDLY". Now that's just what would happen to me with my luck.

I'll include the instructions if anyone has suggestions for me off the paperwork. Thanks guys, if I pull this off my bike might actually be ready for a long trip without the worrying about problems!!!

Calibration is very easy -- you just put in the calibration mode ride a mile (on aroad that has mile markers like a turnpike or interstate. -- this is auto mode -- tire size is irrelevant as it is counting the number of pulses that it recieves during that mile you travel. Make sure your tires are properly inflated when doing this. AUTO will work for just about any size tire out there on a motorcycle

Do this before setting the mileage which is also pretty well documented in the instructions.

Thanks Mike! The instructions don't seem so daunting now! Set odo, select mph, Auto cal, ride the mile and I'm done! It will be my last thing to do thank God (knock on fkg wood) . I do need a better seat though, my ass hurts after an hour or so... gettin old.

Select MPH, Auto cal by riding a mile (marked) Set ODO is the sequence I use when I do them.
Calibration from the factory is usually pretty close the auto allows you to fine tune it.

I did the auto mode on my 06 mastiff and rode a mile (not on interstate but around my block) and I probably did something wrong, but when my odo says 80 mph I'm actually at about 97 mph (ask me how I know). lol. But like I said I probably did something wrong, seems like I had been drinking that day but I can't remember that far back. lol

That's a good idea, I was wondering where in the hell I could start and stop at a mile marker without getting rear ended!
You dont have to stop -- just push button when passing mile marker.
I started at a mile makrer and pulled onto the road, when I saw the mile marker sign ahead I was ready to push the button and did so as I passed. No worry about being rear ended. (at least no more than normal)

Mike, the Dakota Digital requires you to start the bike while holding the button, that is the start of calibration so not something you could do on the highway (well, you could...) so I made my own neighborhood mile marker and checked it twice. Worked like a charm but I couldn't remember the route today for a while until the fog lifted.

Forgot about that -- It's been quite a while since I've done it.
I did do it on a superslab, pull onto shoulder, shut off, turned on and set in auto mod then drive to thenext mile marker (in right lane) and when I neared the next mile marker I pull off onto shoulder again and hit the button to finish calibration.
Had a section of road that in the middle of the day was very low traffic back then.

You know I don't think these people think in terms of reality when they design these things. It should be as simple as the way you described, push the button at a mile marker, push again at the second mile marker, not sitting in the road turning on the key and starting your bike WHILE holding down the damn button! The other thing is the odometer setting. I wonder how many people install a new odometer and put in a much lower mileage than it really has. I know if I were going to buy another bike and it had a new speedometer on it, I would be checking the engine out ten times more in depth than I would with a bike with the original speedometer. And by the way, those Dakota Digital speedometers are the shizit!!! I feel like I'm in the movie TRON now when I ride my bike!!! :whoop:

Well no place I ever lived has it been hard to find a section of road to do this on. Occassionally you might have to adjust when you do it time wise.
Must suck to be in that much traffic all the time!

Yeh the highway here isn't as bad as places like Miami, Orlando, Tampa but people get killed changing a tire on the side of the road. I think we have a higher stupid driver ratio than most places.
