I have an 05 Mastiff I changed rear tire next day I took it out for a ride I get 6-7 mi n I'm hearing strange noise then the ass end is walking around on me feels like so I boot a u turn back to the house. I jack the bike up n noticed the wheel is loose on the axle so I decide I need to pull it back down. I remove axle covers loosen Allen head screws then remove the nut off the end of the axle and started tapping the axle out only the axle didn't move. I'm assuming the bearings have seized to the axle I'm sure there is no easy fix but can anyone tell me the best way to solve this issue. It will be much appreciated

Damn that sucks. Keep working on the axle. Maybe some PB Blaster to help free it up. Order some new bearings from bigdogpartskingpin.com/ HDM Inc. (same company) should be 3 on the rear. Easy job to do yourself if you have a bearing puller kit. Always use anti-seize on the rear axle when reinstalling. I’m sure someone will have better advice than this but it’s what I would do if I were in your situation. Good luck!

Going to walk the parts of a basic rear wheel in a swing arm:

1. Axle nut side and spin off.
2. Axle is pulled out and passes thru...
3. Outer spacer is between swing arm and first wheel bearing.
4. First wheel bearing.
5. Center spacer -BTW, condensation corrodes the inner tubed spacer that needs the axle lubed before installing, or hammer time.
6. Second wheel bearing.
7. Carrier to wheel spacer.*
8. Sprocket carrier housing bearing.
9. Wheel bearing spacer to swing arm.

*Many times I spoon a tire off a rear wheel over the oil drum/trash can , 7 is missing when I reinstall it and something does not feel right, like the wheel moves horizontally on the tight axle.

OK, are all the spacers where they are suppose to be?
Take another jack and lift the rear wheel so that there is not as much belt tension on it, remove belt from pulley if possible if not already done.
You may need to loosen the axle adjusters then wiggle the wheel.
Does the wheel spin while up in the air? Do you feel resistance?rough spots?

I did manage to get the belt off the sprocket but the axle won't budge . On the throttle side I can move axle forward and back maybe 1/4" don't know what'my next move should be. No wheel won't spin it's not exactly straight so it's binding in the brake caliper . Ty for trying to help me sorry it took so long to get back to you . I'll check it more often now

I see that, if I would only have joined the forum before changing my tire this is my first tire change on the BD I won't have to be reminded next time I guarantee it

How are you tapping the axle.
I use a long thin socket extention that I know clears the thread so I feel safe giving it a good whck if needed.
Have you used a jack under the wheell to adjust the level of the axel so it's not being forced down or up -- can be a bitch to find at times.
Try a heat gun to see if you can lossen it up along with all the penetrationg style oil you're using.

Also install a longer bolt nut pair on the axle -- lock the nuts together then try and turn (slightly) and watch the axel on the other side and see if it pivots at all when you tighten or loosen it back up -- there is a small amount of play in that oval in that area

I've got to the point where threads don't matter I started with a basic claw hammer with an extension and socket got nowhere went up to 3lb mini sledge split socket axle hasn't budged not a hundredth of an inch so I went to the 8lb sledge and cold steel punch I have fu messed the tapped end of the axle up so new axle is already in my future due to my anger issues I don't want it to escalate to swing arm then bike so im taking deep breaths n breaks lol I haven't ridden in two months n riding is therapy for me, I know it is for all of us .
It looks like the other end of the axle has actually dug a groove in the bottom of the slot where the axle goes I thought about a Dremel n see if there is a groove that the end of the axle is catching on n jus to take it one step at a time

Just to make sure, you didnt have 2 sets of setscrews in you axle adjusters did you? I have seen a second set used a locking set. Just my thoughts.....

There is suppose to be 2 sets as far as I know.'
And I have been able to pretty easily remove my axle in the past without touching the set screws -- Hell with a little work I have been know to re-install the axle without moving the set screws.

based upon your description that the threads on the axle are wasted, I at this point would be entertaining the thought of using a saw (hacksaw or other) and slicing right thru the axle spacers on each side of the wheel and allowing the whell to that drop out.
Keep the wheel supported while cutting, use some thin slats of wood on each side of the blade to pretect the frame/wheel/etc from the saw especially if using a power device that might kick.

This assumes that you have tried HEAT applied to the axle and tried driving it out once its warm -- Only other thing you could try is some dry ice or freeze sprray on the axle to try and get it to shrink smaller than the bearing. Given the description I am not sure you will be able to change the temp enough in the location needed to get the proper effect.

I Google 05 BD Mastiff rear axle kit with 250 tire it comes back with every year but 05 and every other tire size 330 , 300 etc. does anyone know part numbers or know where I can find out part numbers today for rear axle , bearings ,spacers ,seals and brake pads for my bike ? Are these sealed bearings or do they have a race? Mine were chewed to dust hopefully I don't need a wheel or hubs either way this was a costly lesson.
The only way I could figure to remove the wheel was by cutting on the right side through the spacer and axle . I did what what could have been disasterious I used a 4" angle grinder with 6" cut off wheel the first one shattered the 2nd finished the job.ill try to post a couple pics to show what I'm left with n maybe y'all can give me some guidance on whether I need new wheel or what I'ma need thank y'all again

Sendsome pics of the hubs once the bearings are out - hopefully you didn't damage them.
Not very likely that you damaged the wheel IMHO.

Post some pictures. Bearings should be sealed. You can definitely get another axle & spacer. Be sure to post a picture of the hubs.
