BDM cylinders are taller than regular S&S cylinders in order to reduce compression - I think they are .060" taller from memory - zeroing the deck is getting this machined off.

I think it wasn't an issue with the 03's, I thought my 03 was a standard S&S configured motor.
The longer cylinders started in 05 due to EPA issues or whatever it was. Maybe some 04 models but not sure of them.

Worth looking into anyway.

I thought zeroing was cutting down the cylinders until they were even with the face of the piston at TDC. Am I wrong here?

Thanks guys. So I take from this I need not worry about this? Or the intake restiction?

Yes you are correct but as mentioned I don't think BDM went the taller cylinders unitl 05

i spoke with s&s and they told me if i cut the cylinders to zero deck and get the 600 cam and springs along with shorter pushrods and valves and shorter intake,i would then have a regular 117 engine with the power its suppose to put out like 115-120hp ,not the epa 85hp motor we have..has anybody tried this and have they seen a improvement in hp?

a lot of people on here have done those things or similar - what do they mean by shorter intake? presumably without the restrictors / spacers the 05's have?

cosine and tangent is far too intelligent for me! I do know what you mean though - because of the angles of the jugs :2thumbs:

sul , so you did exactly what s&s reccommended to me ,to get the true 117 engine? what else did you add and around what kind of hp numbers are you pulling? also being from jersey who did your work?

if you just cut ,lets say .050" of the heads ,is there enough ajustment on the push rods not to have to replace them?
has any one done just that???, & what gains would there be!
