XMSN Oil Change

Recently purchased an 08 BigDog K9. Awesome machine!
Tried to drain my xmsn oil and only a little bit came out? The plug I removed was just behind the sprocket guard on a 45 degree fitting. The oil was still Luke warm, but not hot. The bike was upright and on level concrete. What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you have the correct plug....was it full when you started? Did you remove the fill plug?

As I learned today, if you remove the fill plug and it still doesn't come out, check that the vent tube is not clogged!
Air pressure thru vent hose will clear it (be sure to put fill cap back on first so fluid only goes out bottom to catch pan.

I had to do this today on mine. -- Thanks to Mr. Wright for pointing me in the (w)right direction.

Scary to think the xmsn was almost empty. How could it run without oil? Will warm it up in morning and check the oil again.

One of the old ones.
41bigdawg has a good point—make to remove the dipstick from the fill hole. Could be making a vacuum in there not letting the oil drain out.
That oil has to be somewhere—either still in the case, or leaked out one of two holes—input or output shaft. On your bike an output shaft leak is very noticeable, dripping on the right side.
In looking at the schematic of the primary, I’m thinking maybe an input shaft seal failure might do the same. I’ve not had one fail and not for sure if it would leak into the primary or between the transmission and bearing carrier. An easy check would be to drain the primary—if it has more than a quart in it, you probably have a leaking transmission seal. Relatively inexpensive and easy fix.

Changed the primary oil. Had about a quart in it. No problem with it. Noticed the bike would shift into neutral easier.
