After 2 months fucking with my starter problems I had the thing rebuilt installed it today and the starter seems to crank stronger than before.The problem is the bike will not start.About 2 weeks ago I cleaned the starter contacts and the bike started a few times before the starter finally gave way.
Any reason why it is not starting now?

Well first I would ensure you have gas in the tank. I know, sounds stupid but I took my bike into the shop once cause of this and they told me I just just out of gas.
Second, check for spark at the plugs and put new ones in. If no spark then you need to do some further investigation.

How long has it been since it was last started?

I just made sure it had gas.The bike sat for about a month and a half.I took the starter out about 2 weeks ago and cleaned the soleniod contacts and the bike started about 4 or 5 times until the starter quit for good.Like I said the bike turns over after installing new starter but will not start.

Check all the little white connections under the seat in front of the EHC and the circuit breaker to boot.

Maybe,just maybe there's crap in your carb bowl not always letting gas through.:confused:

Start to troubleshoot the problem. Begin by eliminating the possibilities.

Got:
fuel? in tank..at carb..
spark?
battery at 12.6 or better when sitting?
battery voltage while cranking is 11 volts or better?
All the battery terminal wires reconnected?

Once you check all the above, let us know.

I changed the spark plugs and after 3 attempts it started and then died.I tried again with no luck.I have 12.9 thru the battery when sitting.It is pushing a lot of oil out of the overflow under the bike.

Sounds like the gas is breaking down. Shit gas can't sit for long periods of time. Yours sat for two months...... Not that its the same, but my new Honda lawn moawer sat for 3 weeks with the gas in there, and I could only get it to run with the choke on. Dumped the gas, the thing fired right up and ran great.

YOurs sat for 2 months.

Might drain the tank
Clean the carb bowl and jets

Make sure you're buyin high test for your gas and if you can buy from a good supplier that does not dispence 3 grades of fuel thru one hose. I use Exxon and luckaly their pumps have individual hoses for each octane.

Do not use the enrichener

Your battery looks fine....so.

Some of the gas nowadays can go bad in as little as 3 weeks. ALWAYS RUN THE HIGHEST OCTANE AT THE PUMP YOU GAN GET. Because the last pump user probably pumped regular and there is still some left in the hose when you pump your premium.

Run some Sea Foam though it, in the GAS tank.. The stuff is magic and I use it all the time in the yard equipment, boat and car engines. Ran some through my bike gas tank just last week as well.

I drained the tank and put some new high octane in and it made no diffrence.How do clean the bowl and the jets?

You would have to pull the air cleaner, then take off the carb bowl. There are two jets the intermediate and the main. To do this you will have to remove the carb/aircleaner mounting bracket. If you do this you want to be careful as not ot dissturbed the intake gaskets and cause a air leak.

Rather than do this it might be best to try to re-tune your carb as per the S&S specs or the how to's on the site. You might try this first before you pull things apart. You can adjust the idle, idle mixture and accelerator pump with just a screwdriver and not remove anything

Might be worth a try before a carb clean.:up:

pumpdogs, take a can of starting fluid and shoot a small amount into the carb aned if it starts right up you need to go through your fuel system if it makes no difference then start checking your ignition system for problems did you have any issues at all before you took it down to fix the starter, missing , backfiring, hard starting?

to be sure only one cylinder is firing............check for spark on both..............then check to see if fuel is getting to both.

i had a problem with my bike in the past where it was not getting sufficient fuel to the left side of the tank. the pits (i have an 08) have a split tank with a jumper fuel line in between. if it is blocked or obstructed it may prevent suffucient fuel to transfer to the carb.... i think.

mine sat for a while and it seemed as if there was an obstruction ( a kink or solidified fuel). check for spark and then fuel. if not it may be the starter work you had done.

second what ray says......it sounds kind of silly but mine just wasn't getting fuel to the cylinders.
