WTF chuck?!?!?!?!

Energy One
SO......

Riding in january this yr and bang bang, here comes a monster knock... shut her down immediately tore apart the top end praying an easy fix... YAAA we all know that aint happening... the racer bearings on the engine main shaft decided to descinegrate... Here goes the engine to the machine shop to be rebuilt... $2500 and 3 weeks estimated, turns into $3900 and 3 months.. wooo hoooo!!! :job: Mind you that was me pulling the motor, and reinstalling myself... well 3 months later i start the reinstall, that goes glowingly and I get it back the shop Within 2 days... As ive been slowly watching the weather here in Denver get nicer and nicer im slowly dying inside, lol.... Well the bike was returned to the shop, to do a final inspection and carb install and supposed first fire up... I get the dreaded call a week later saying... UMMMMM your trannies fawked, and thats prolly what blew your engine. :argue:

I pick up the bike, pull the tranny, have it inspected by another shop who says the trannies fine... I take it back to the first shop seeing as how hes the one to warranty the original engine.. Once the s.o.b decides to get started, lol... he talks me into a tranny rebuild :job:... charges me more than Andrew would, I know im an idiot.. blah blah blah, lol...

So now the engine is rebuilt, a new ignition and coil are installed, the trannies rebuilt and I figure im glutton for punishment so while at it i might as well get 2 new tires.....

This leads me to my question after my ranting diatribe... I have an 03 LSD chopper, S&S 107, jims case, jims shifter fork, baker gears tranny, and a SUPPOSEDLY 250/40/18 rear..... WELLLLLLLLLL the one i pulled off was an avon, I wanted to try a different company, so i went with the Dunlop Elite 3 250/40/18... i got that all installed today, or so i thought... the damn thing apparently is bigger than the Avon.... so now the tire is hitting my belt AND my swing arm...

ANYONE ever ran into this?? :bang: what size tire is supposed to be on the bike? :bang: Is it just bc im an idiot and dont have the tire adjusted properly, or are different tires really be off by that signifigant an amount? :bang: are the clearances really that tight between tire/belt/swingarm?? :bang::bang::angry::bang::bang::angry::angry::bang:

thx for listening to a new riders wonderful first few months to a glorious riding season, lol :up::up::up:

WOOOOOOOOOOW!!!! What did they do to that motor to spend that much?!!! And what did they charge you for trans rebuild so I know what to charge the next guy, ahahaha...nah, just kidding.
I have had this problem before with tires and I believe the fix was to put a 240 on.

Looking forward to retirement
And to think I got upset because I picked up a rock and got it lodged in my front pully of my open primary and shredded a belt! Wow my bill was only $140.00

Hey skiandbrew!
I run Dunlop Elite 3 after switching from Avon.
Yes, the Avon was 250 and like you I figured a 250 Dunlop would be the same.
Well, I had the exact problem, damn Dunlop is wider and would rub belt and swingarm.
I manually trimmed it with a blade, because I didn't want to buy another 240 Dunlop.
Is it ok to trim it? Well, had no problems in the past 10k miles, I'd say it was a good idea.

yaaaaa....not been a fun few months... the tranny rebuild was 375 but i bought the bearings, so not really alllll that bad considering... the engine was a complete rebuild with new rods, pistons, pumps, cranks, and cams.. the joy of "cheap" S&S parts, lol

I like the trim the tire thing... think im going to go mess with that tmrw...

Anyone interested in a dunlop elite 3 250/40/18 with less than 100 miles for 100 bucks plus shipping if i decide not to trim it??

That sucks...some shops love taking advantage of people...did they at least show you all the shavings? What about old parts...did they give them to you?
