WOW!! 585 Install, S&S Tuned Induction..

So this morning I finished up the final pieces to the 585 cam install, Tuned Induction intake, oil change, K&P Oil Filter, and throttle maintenance...

WOW... What a difference...

First this I noticed was the sound at idle... Honestly, don't like it.. But hold on... I cut my baffles down to about 5.5", very gargled, deeper, but gargled, which I believe is from the cut baffles, but definitely a very noticeable sound difference right off the bat... Don't know if I should try the BigCity Thunder inserts, or cut the baffles down a tad more... Some of you have said that with the baffles removed it sounds horrible.. Maybe its just me, but I don't like the sound at idle, I want that fat, mean, lop sound when its idling, and right now it sounds like a cheap jap knock off... Keep in mind, this is just at idle...

Hop on the bike and head down the road... WOW!! Again... Smooth but crisp power.. The roll on and mid-range is actually kinda mind blowing, and instantly puts a smile on your face... Now for the sound... Mid-range throttle and roll on acceleration sounds awesome, mean, fat, and with an attitude, definitely another grin factor...

Definitely happy and excited I did it... But want to try and get the sound at idle better, so any suggestion is appreciated, whether its cutting the baffles a tad more or getting the BigCity Thunder inserts...

I also want to thank those who have posted and put up How-To's on the various steps for the 585 install, Pushrod adjustment, and maintenance, a huge Thank You to those that took the time to document these steps and procedures, they were life savers and help the process along for those of us who need it... :2thumbs:

can you upload a video of it idling?

I am a cam fan in cars/ v8s. but been curious what my bike has, cause it sounds lopy to me but who knows.

Definitely get the BCTs I´ve got the QQ ones and I love the sound, very deep & throaty! :2thumbs:

V&H 2-2 also on my bike.

Nice... I was actually just looking at the Original Monster, I believe for the V&H 2-2 is Part Number 2002...

The QQ is QBL 1845... Obviously I assume these aren't the Metric version for our bikes...

What are you idling at? Sounds a bit high.. see if you can drop it down between 500-800
I haven't messed with the idle at all, I thought it was high too!! the speedo is reading a solid 1000, every once in a while it will blip between 500-1000, but more often than not between 1000-1500

Guess I need to look up the How to on that...

Can I use the S&S software and USB into the ignition box and read it that way?

Even with it idling like it is... It seems to stumble if you try blipping it.. Its not smooth off idle, almost like its too rich kinda bog off the bottom, but that doesn't seem right cause its getting more air now with the Tuned Induction on it... Although, might be the cut baffles and less back pressure... Don't know at this point...

If you have the software...but I would just try turning the idle screw down a hair 1/8 of a turn or so each time until you get the idle where you want. Shouldn't need much.

Go to S&S website they have a good how too

go easy on the idle, factory recommendation is right at 1k, much less and it could result in severe main bearing wear. i know it sounds good lopping but at a price.

so the VFI module where you plug the serial port in is riveted closed with a cover plate, so I guess Im not hooking up the protune software to it...

is the idle even adjustable on the VFI's?

Don't get your panties in an uproar, but that sound clip sounds aweful, it sounds hollow, I would put the baffels back in.:zz2cents:

I put the BCT baffles in my V & H 2 into 2 it's the baffle that is an eyelet about 6 inches in and I love the sound even at idle sounds much better.

I had the same opinion as you I didn't like original baffles at all. It was a well spent 90 bucks !

SO to low of an idle will kill the main bearings... Hmm Intresting, I have never heard that.

I have no tack, so I just have mine idleing wher it does not die, and sounds good.

Below is a quote from a guy in the know. A little birdy

"This guys engine has something seriously wrong with it. The way it's idling and popping out rear exhaust and the amount of mechanical noise coming from it, he has something wrong. I would say either he adjusted pushrods wrong, lifter is bad, or valve guide is worn. Maybe all the above!"

the more i listen to the video, the more i feel i need to ask the question. are you sure it is a 585??????? sounds more like a 569. and, yes, lugging one of these, or any, long stroked motors is not good on the internals. has to maintain enough inertia on the crank to make sure it gets past top dead center to keep it from hanging up on the stroke. at least that's my story, and i'm stickin' to it.

First, there is not an idle screw on an EFI.

Yes it is the serial port, or USB on some. It is not riveted, those are Allen screws so you can just unscrew it. Don't think you can change target idle speed with protune but haven't tried either.

However, I would hook up and check faults. I totally agree this bike is not running right.

I had a couple issues on mine that caused poor throttle response, clogged injectors and burnt spark plug wires.

Either way you have a major miss on that bike that needs to be resolved. It sounds like it running on one cylinder.
