Definitely check the VIN#. We had a customer bring in his bike that was just purchased on ebay. We looked up the VIN # and found out it was stolen. Not a fun thing to have to tell someone. It made the nightly news and everything.

You can pay independent inspection services in the neighborhood of $200 to inspect the bike prior to payment. I did on a 69 Camaro once upon a time.

That is how i bought mine. I was very lucky being that the seller only lived about 30 mins from me. I was able to go look at it before bidding. Personally I don't see a problem with buying one off of there. Just know your shit and try to find out as much info on it as possible. Good Luck!!!!

You definatley want to check the VIN through a Bigdog Dealer. I found my bike through e-bay... it was at a car dealership so I had my wife call for me (I was deployed). Came home on R&R and picked it up in Tulsa, OK and rode home to MO no problems except the speedo drops off when I get on it. Not really over-reving just rapid exceleration. I didnt have it fixed because I had to leave back to the box and was not going to waste any time without my bike. Got back in DEC and it still does it(go figure since I didnt take it in). So I have researched on here and yes, I did clean the sensor. When it sweeps it actually goes backwards not to the 50-60. So, I called this AWESOME BABE to see what has been done on my bike since it was originally purchased there. What do I find, the guy was a "cowboy"... engine was replaced at 3200ish and no telling how it was riden after that. Was it broke in properly or what. Now dont get me wrong I love my bike and I am really not complaining but I figure I should have done a little better research before paying 20+K cash. So, now I wil get all the manuals...owners, service, S&S, and anything else that might be necessary and be prepared to fix what ever comes my way (of course with a little help from you guys...after I do a search). Oh and get some new tools.

I left for Iraq in June of 07 and got back home in Oct. I got home on a Thursday. Found my dog on eBay and bought it the following Weds. Got BACK on a plane and flew to Atlanta, got picked up at the airport by the car dealer that had it. Went back to the dealership, gave them the check, signed the paperwork and rode it 250+ miles home. It had 2K miles on it and I got it for UNDER $18k. I have over 17K miles on it now. not too bad for a year and a half of riding. I love it!!!!

BUT, I did do my homework before buying. Called, talked to the salesman, etc.

I bought my bike off of ebay after looking at it for a couple of weeks. I have purchased 2 motorcycyces and sold 2 off of ebay. So far, so good. The owner of my Bigdog was ripped off and worried but, I put him at ease and followed some good guidelines. I follow these rules for transactions over $500.00. See the title and never send money to someone you don't actually meet. I have enjoyed ebay and papal for all of my purchases. It has been a good experience and I would do it again.

Wow thanks for all the replies already. You bro's are just too fucking cool on this site man! Just to think that some of you guys a solid enough to go check out a bike for another bro if he cant make it out and your close is just AWSOME! Definately found the right biker family that's for sure.. That's cool that they have those independant companies too if no one can check it out or I cant make it out. I will def check the Vin # that seems to be the first thing to do, and research the seller.. Time to start looking on the Bay.. Thanks again Bros...FLU

I think buying a bike is like marriage. You want to ride it before you make a commitment you might wind up regretting.
(Not that that always works out either.)
Yeah but don't be surprised if most people won't let you ride the bike first.

Depends, would love to get away with low teens but probably around $15k would be a good ballpark. Would even go a little higher if it was my perfect style paint job and all but that would be tough...

dont call me junior!
i got an 05 ridgeback, $14,900. shipped 24 hours away, for $500. Bike only had 2800 miles, 300 tire, 117" motor, MM exhaust, pass seat and pegs.

I got exactly what i wanted in the price range i wanted. I had been shopping for about 6 months, and that definitly helps..... and RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH! when you go to pay, your bank will handle all financial dealings, they wont send money w/o title, etc... just know what you want, what you want to pay and stick with it.

stlmikie

I wish I had more money.
What you said about the bank is dead on. I was a bit insecure about the handing over of the money but in the end neither the seller or I had the bike or the money in hand until the banks had done the business. They took the worries out of the deal for me at least.
