Woods instal on a budget

my local dealer wanted 2600 turn key for a woods 650 cam instal. Is this a good price? Seems high to me. Im a decent mechanic but never changed a cam out. Is it very difficult? I have seen other threads and have an idea about the head work, springs ect. can you help?

sounds a lot to me - presumably that includes all the parts? I think I paid about $600 for that cam and springs and I think about £400 ($800 ish) to have it fitted - and that included having my decks done, new gaskets etc.

I would get another price for a comparison. Sounds high to me just like Lee said, but you didn't list everything they are going to include. :2thumbs:

Too HIGH. I bought the Woods 650 cam and springs from K9Matt (performance edge) which was a little under $600 delivered. My BD dealership will take 7.5 hours @ $79/hr ($593.00) to install plus $100 for gaskets. FYI, my local independant wrench estimated 8 hrs @ $75/hr but wont touch the job because he didn't supply the cam. These prices don't include any deck work.

sparker - I would definitely recommend getting your decks done at the same time - they're in there anyway and the increased compression will bring more out of the cam

Some cams, especially that radical, require the increased compression, and more breathing requirements - springs - valves - intake and exhaust...

You may want to go down to a 600 - if you dont plan to go all the way or you may be ending up with a whole-lotta headaches... :zz2cents:

A cam change on these engines is so simple a cave man could do it. Seriously, it's easy. But, if you need springs too then it gets harder. I used the stock springs with my 600 cam, but I verified I had the good ones. I also took my jugs to a machinist and had them decked (using my measurements).

just got my woods 650 cam and woods springs installed by coolbreeze.
also decked the cylinders ....took .041 off
ported the head.
all i can say is all the valve train noise went away , and it feels insane just sitting on it while its running. you can feel the power through the frame on the seat. compression is at 10.5.1

Has anyone done a how-to on Cam Replacement? I was thinking of trying to do my own, it doesn't look that hard.

To pull the jugs ..Do you just pull the heads and then the jugs are bolted down to the case with studs? or do you have to pull the engine??

If you're going to zero deck the jugs don't touch them after you pull the heads. Take your measurements then you can pull them.
