Won't start

Help again and don't beat me up if it is out there, but I cannot find it. Here is just one problem I want to get an answer for.

Big Dog k-9 does not start. Coil is good, had tested, no fire to the plugs.

So is there a trouble shooting guide that will help. Also please do me a favor, if you name something, could you tell me where it is located and what I need to do to fix it. I really appreciate all of your help, and you have all been great. I have some other issues, but need to get this one fixed first.

What are the other issues? Those other issues may be causing the no fire at the plugs, just saying...

Look at your ignition module whilst you are turning the bike over. It may be under your seat. It is a silver box with a heart with a sword going through it. There is a red light on it. While turning it over this red light should be flickering. Start with that and come back and tell us what you see.

Its the square metal piece with what looks like a sticker on it, ritht hand side of bike near the battery . This is a 06 k9 that belongs to a friend that I am doing a WirePlus install on. When you switch on the key switch, then press the run button you should have a red led light up. Then when you hit the starter button you should have two other leds light up, blue and yellow I think thats the right colors and alternate on and off as the engine turns over. This is the trigger coming from the cam sensor that triggers the coils that sends spark to the plugs. If these are working then its back to the coil. If the red led doesn't light up then maybe in the circuit boad on the right handle bar controler. If the other leds don't light up the maybe cam sensor located down by the oil filter on the left hand side of the engine. Try cleaning it. Hope this helps!

The other issues are that the front brake handle does not light up the back brake light when used. The neutral light stays on all the time (actually now it does not come on at all) and the tach is sparatic.

I have never seen the bike. I'll just walk up to it and run a detail like this:

1. With my key on, I need a test light. It has an alligator clip on one side, an ice pick kind to tip on the other end. A light is fixed in a clear handle. When the alligator clip is on the wire or wire post where the wire is, you take the ice pick end, touch a good known ground, like the engine, see if the light comes on, you touch that tip to ground.

2. With that said, you can make a test light with 2 alligator clips, some wire, and a light bulb from a turn signal. Silver solder the wire end to the lead end of the bulb. Solder the other wire to the side of bulb body. Solder the alligator clips to each end of the wire(s). You now have a homemade test light.

3. Begin the test by grounding one gator clip to a good ground.

4. Place the other test lead to the coil wire that has two wires attached to the one post. Turn key on, find the kill switch, make sure it is on. The test light says, 'you have current from the battery, to key switch, to spark box, to the coil. It is not the spark box? I don't know? I am just walking a basic wire connection to wire connect. If I missed a step, my fault. Correct me if I'm wrong. Trying to remember who is the next to receive a few volts?

5. What you did, was test for a complete circuit up to the coil. I am going to assume, if the current goes thru the box, up to the coil, this says, she is good from key switch to coil. You still have to question the spark unit? Are these prone to failure on a BB or they say look for a down wire?

6. I'm going with Mikie. I hope it's a bad connection. Who's ignition system do they use? If the spark units go out, then maybe that coil is OK as tested? So the question is, are the bike's ignition system, 'this side of bulletproof?'

Here is a troubleshooting guide to help you along to answer some of your questions as you run into them. A big thanks goes out to Sulconst2 who shared this files with us originally if I remember correctly. Of course, the members on this forum are the biggest asset and better than any manual could ever be.

Does the red led come on the ignition module when you switch the ignition on and press the run button?

If not you may have a loose connection or a bad circuit board in the right hand controler.

You may also want to remove the connectors at the EHC and check for corrision & water. Water getting in there will do some strange things.

Hi All, we will look at all that was sent and see what we can do to get it running. Before getting the trouble shooting and the advice about no spark, here is what my son found out and has done:
(Note my son is in the Air Force in Del Rio and I am in Kentucky and trying to help him out, so I have been sending all of the info and he works on it each evening. Thanks for everyones help).

Tried cleaning the crank sensor today and still nothing. I looked at the ignition module and there are no lights flashing on it. I see where there should be a flashing light but nothing. When I click the run button, a light comes on on the new wire plus system and lights come on when I crank it as well. Just nothing out of the ignition module. I don't remember ever seeing lights on the module but then again I don't think I have ever looked at it when I am trying to start it up. Maybe the module is bad?

Yes it was running after Wire Plus, just started this. With Wire Plus our problem was with a good ground, I think we fixed the ground and fixed most. However instead the neutral light staying on all of the time it went off. The only thing that was still not working was the Neutral light stayed on all the time, the hand brake did not turn on the brake light and the tach was spuratic. Just recenlty it failed to start.
