Won’t start, starter help!

Starter problems. I just changed out all my seals and gaskets from the tranny all the way out of the primary and refilled all my fluids. Changed the battery and went to start the bike but I all hear is clicking and spinning. I have an 07 K-9 limited edition. Any ideas. I’ve read about a slam button but I dont think I’ve got one to try. Is the starter toast or can the starter selinoid just be gummed up since I haven’t ridden in a long while because of the leaks? Help please.

Oh and if there’s a trick to removing the starter from the final drive side I’d LOVE to hear it. Incase I have to replace it.

Knows some things
After you have the solenoid apart and everything cleaned, you can rehook the battery, and use a wooden rod to press the plunger into the solenoid. This does the same thing as a slam button. If it turns over your starter is good. Providing your battery is good

Just be carefull with open solenoid and battery connected... if shit comes out of the solenoid you most likely will melt that long spring ...

Ooh good info. Do you know if anyone has pictured this on a thread anywhere. I’ve never taken a starter apart before.

Short(pun) of cleaning contacts, find a pair of pliers with bare handles. Spread the handles apart so the one end touches the neg battery post and the other end touches the engine somewhere. Now hit the starter button. If you get from A to B, meaning, starter button contact to motor and the noise 'clicks and spins,' it's not dirty contacts is the flow from A to B, but might be lacking amps (push) to turn the engine over of that compression resistance = Test Battery Load [is my guess] when click comes to shove.
