If you had an 06 through 08 K9 which would your choice be, and what are the pro's and cons of the 2 systems offered? Is there other systems offered as well? Thanks for your input.

Doc's 100%..... There is another site that talks about Doc's and no one is having any problems and they answer the phone for customer service... I put WP in my bike and it lasted 200 miles.... No one answered the phone to help and when I finally got through they wanted me to send the unit back which would put me down for a month. I did. They sent it back saying it was fine. I put it in back the bike and it wouldn't start. I threw it in the trash and old schooled wired it..... Don't even think about WP..... Just search the latest posts on WP here and see the horror stories... Ah, and I'd forget RIP too....

:agree: X2 Just put one in mine and it fired right up no issues, and he answers the phone right away and is more than willing to help, he helped me trouble shoot my speedo/sensor and it had nothing to do with the ESC unit. I did add the additional charging monitor for the oil light to do double duty that DOC's offers.:old2:

I've had the wires plus unit in my bulldog for about 3k miles now and the switch control module(the module that controls all the input through the buttons) has burned up twice in that time, which seems to be somewhat common as I've read a couple of other posts about the issue, & while they're under warranty and have been replaced for free both times, it sucks sitting around for a week or two staring at the pup in the garage, the customer service at WP has been great for me so that's the only reason I put up with the issue, they did tell me I was getting a new resigned module last time I had to replace it. But it looks the exact same as the first one so not sure what exactly is "improved"

Wire plus=absolute garbage. To make it worse they are a$$holes to deal with, IF they even bother to answer the phone. They say they will call back and they don't. I went through three of them, then it took a crap again luckily at home, so I am now wiring in a TH-MHC. (same module as ESC and RIP).

After searching for a electrical problem on my K9 my ECH started smoking I decided to go with a new ESC unit.

I first pulled out the screwed up BD wiring harness and controller.

Installed the ESC unit in the same location as stock ECH. Plugged all connectors with dielectric grease and sealed with liquid tape. All wires with the new harness are lettered. A complete full colored wire diagram show what function each plug goes to, very simple.

Ran main harness through the backbone and plugged in all branch circuit connections with a dab of dielectric grease. I then sealed all connections with liquid tape. The ESC comes with a completely new braided steel headlight wire with ceramic plug. It gets rid of that three feet of coiled up wire in the 08 K9 headlight bucket.

Used the included zip ties to bundle up the wire harness.

Zip tied the backbone harness and wrapped it up in the under tank cover on the backbone.

And done, all stock functions work perfect. I did go with the electrical system monitor also. I haven't even had the dreaded starter clunk since.

My K9 has WP, replaced the unit once when VR blow it out ($240) otherwise no problems. My future problem will be the connectors on bars, speedo/tach, light... Dunno what previous owner has been up to, but they are all pretty loose, have to use small zip ties to hold them together... Replacing those will be just the job I love, being totally hopeless with soldering iron and electronics. Seriously I don't know what to do with those in future, now they seem to work just fine.

Either the ESC or the RIP, everything else is just a problem waiting to happen. If you are good at electrical installations you can just go with the THMC yourself and do all the wiring and terminations. If you go that route, get a good crimper for the JST pins. But you still need to get a module for triggering the high/low beams and the run/stop switches.

Same problem with my WP unit, voltage regulator blew it once and ended up replacing the vr with the one WSW offers and replaced the WP module. No problems since then. *Crosses fingers* if it takes a shit again the whole units going in the fire pit lol
