Wires Plus and Factory Switch Install

Just a heads up for anyone installing the Wires Plus WP374 kit along with the BDM Factory Ign Switch Relay.

I just finished the install of both on my 07 Chopper. Purchased everything from Jake (BDMRIDGEBACK) and he was absolutely great to work with and shipping was fast! Thanks man!

After install was complete, before I wrapped and tucked wires away I gave it all a test, turned key on, NOTHING! While I was installing the relay pack I wondered how the ignition switch would be able to to ground the relay pack when only a ground is sent to switch but not able to return. According to the second to last page of instructions that came with wires plus kit, #38(c), the black wire, B-21, ignition ground is not used and there is no provision in the relay pack to run this wire to ground. So I grounded Black B-21 and everything works perfect except for 4 way flashers. Still trying to figure that one out, maybe its how I am trying to operate them.

If I need corrected on this please jump and say so, trying to save alittle head scratching for the next person. Also a hint on why flashers dont work, or how I need to operate would be great.

Great kit, great people to work with also! THanks!

Well not sure if this helps but when I installed the WP on my 04 chopper I started with all the black (ground) wires and grounded them to the battery. I used the directions that came with the WP also. I would assume that same black wire got grounded with the others. I checked all the lights and turn signals as I went, according to the directions. I did the "simple" kit. When I was done everything worked fine. Fired right up. It is important to make sure your connectors are "crimped" real good. I took mine out for a spin when I was done and lost one of my brake lights on the rear. Here the wire pulled out of the pin. After that so far so good. I guess I would check the wires and connectors again. My 4 way flashers work when I press both turn signals at the same time.

thanks AWG, I soldered every single wire connection and didnt use any of the crimps. Used WP instructions side by side with LowDownChop Shop instructions with a full color wiring diagrahm. I guess I figured that since my turn signals worked, there was an internal circuit that controlled 4 ways. Gonna go thru wiring diagrahm again.

My 4 ways did not work after installing Wire Plus but since I never used them anyhow it's no big deal to me :whoop:

Well I went out to the Dog to try my 4 ways. Since you brought it up. I thought I knew what I was talking about with them. But I don't have them either. I guess the WP doesn't offer that feature. Also I use to have the rear brake lights flash three times then stay on steady when applied. I lost that also. Sorry for giving you the wrong info on the 4 ways. They must of worked like that before the wire plus. And like Pops...I never used them anyway.

I have not been on my bike in 3 months but from what I remember if I pressed the right turn signal button twice the 4 ways would go on. The timing between the presses is the key, it has to be just right. Try different delays till you get them to work.

Correct...Push EITHER the right or left turn button quickly 2 times and the 4-way flashers will come on.

Can't do it too slow or really, really fast, but do have to do it quick.

As for the simple kit relay pack...
All black wires on the bike NEED to be grounded wether or not you are or are not going to use them.

If you don't ground one or two, you will find down the road that something won't work when you change something.

Well I'll be darn. I didn't know that. Went out to try it and there you go. Now what do I have to do to get my "back Off" lights to work??

Thanks all! Tried 2 quick pushes and on they came. Rewired the scorpio alarm to include ignition shut down, tested and worked. All good and thanks alot for the help! Almost 2 inches of unpredicted snow on the grnd so I guess be awhile before test ride. Damn Choppers just dont have alot of room for the install, especially when the scorpio is installed also. Jake you will have to let me know when you have some Sporty switches in stock, still want to install that as well.

You will have to get the switch directly through wire-plus.
No longer advertising and selling to forum. A few ruined that for all. :bang:

Shit that sucks, are you still carrying them via Low Down Chop Shop or dropping WP alltogether? Can't understand why WP would give you a hard time you stood behind their product and even offered additional knowledge/information. Seems to me like you were the posterboard for reputable dealer, better customer service than you would get from JP Cycles, Dennis Kirk, or even your local dealer.

About to install the one I got from you a few weeks back...:flag:

It wasn't wire-plus' decision. It was a decision I made due to a few members on here thinking that I am only here to monopolize on the forum, and the people that "NEED" EHC replacements. So I pulled the plug as being a sponsor business and will only be a member just as all the rest here so that I can voice my opinion and help members without the few thinking I am only trying to make a buck.

The profit margin was so little and the time I was putting in with helping everyone, I wasn't even covering the time I was investing, but only getting the satisfaction of helping members get their bikes back up and running at a price cheaper than they could get it anywhere else... but then my business name was getting bad mouthed on here by those few to boot. Didn't want my shop name affiliated on here any more... but will be more than happy to help guys out that need it.:2thumbs:

As of now I will only be ordering wire-plus product just for my personnel use in the shop and not selling them any more over the counter/internet. I had to pretty much beg and plead to Rick at Wire-Plus to let me sell at the 10% on here because he doesn't let any of his dealers sell on the internet below WP's set prices.

Wire-Plus is very good company, I have enjoyed selling their product, and there is nothing out there that comes close to the quality put into their products.

Interesting, honestly didn't see that coming...

Very well said, I completly understand makes sense from a business standpoint. Unfortunatly it looks like its the BDB members that lose out on a reputable dealer, who is very helpful in following up with the transacation. I'll just say I know I could have purchased the WP from someone else, most liekly slightly cheaper even. But I figured for the additional instructions, and if I was desperate shoot you over a PM. I hope I wouldn't have to call you like some members have. Either way that kind of service is worth its weight in gold in my opinion.

I hope to have the wire plus installed over the next two weeks. I hope to not have any issues and have a clean install !! :2thumbs: I will be sure to post pics!

Again, thanks for the product & the additional instructions!!

Sorry to here jake...I too have a small business and the time invested is never compensated but there (clients) always quick to play off your time like you owe them...when you should be spending it with family and friends or the DOG....if I would charge for that well let's just say I understand your point.....

That sucks, Honestly it was a good thing to have a choice of what you wanted to use. I am sure they are both excellent products. I installed a wire plus for a friend and Jake was happy to help with a problem even though he was on his way to dinner with his wife. You should reconsider what you are doing, business is tough in these times. My opinion you stand tall keep going and don't participate in those threads. I am sure plenty agree on this. Anyway thanks for your help that day. O yeah I need another tribar gas cap I left it on my last bike.

Jake,

I can't believe this even though I understand your decision. It really sucks when a few people ruin it for the rest. Sometimes I wonder if they are just like that or do it for sport.:bang: I sure am happy and lucky to have a WP from you in a box bought using the group buy/discount in case my EHC craps out.:D

You certainly should not have to put up with jack a$$es:2thumbs: On the other hand, it may just be a misunderstanding and a group hug may be needed. Even a possible bad day.

I'm sorry to hear this news Jake, you've done good by me on numerous occasions. Will miss purchasing stuff from you, but I understand. Maybe this will give you more time to tackle projects you have waiting to be done? :D:2thumbs::cheers:
