Wire near regulator, what is it?

The regulator on my 2007 K9 fried, and while removing it, I see a thin wire that is a bit burned. I think the wire itself is fine, and it’s just the insulation that got compromised.
Anyways, it appears to be a single wire, but then when I moved the insulation at the ends of the burned off part, I see two wires.
Just curious what those wires are. Here’s a photo of what I’m talking about.

Can you follow it up to where it goes? Possibly crank sensor?

Yes, if nothing else, I can follow the wires. But they end up going into the wire covering and become difficult to trace. May just need to bite the bullet though and trace them.

Looks like the crank sensor wire. Easy to see where it goes into the crankcase and easy to replace. Do not repair the wire it's too important. Unlike the VR ( which only charges the battery) the bike won't run if the crank sensor fails leaving you stranded on the side of the road. Some guys actually carry an extra one in their tool kit just in case.

Thank you! Yes, I see now that the wires go to the crank sensor. Turns out that when the regulator fried, it got so hot that it ended up fusing the two wires together that come from the sensor. I fixed the wires and the bike started up with no issues, and the new regulator is working fine.

One thing I noticed though with the circuit breaker that the regulator wire goes to has a loose post. It’s the post that that the battery is connected to. Noticed that I can turn it with my hand. It’s not that the nut is loose, as it appears the entire post is turning that goes into the breaker.

I assume this is not normal. However, it still works!

Unless someone says it’s normal, looks like I’ll be replacing that breaker.

Glad ya got it figured out. Yeah, just replace the breaker. They cheap.

Had the same issue on my bike. Replaced both breakers and the regulator.
