Will I need new carb jets

When I bought my Mutt it came with the V&H Big radius exhaust. I was going to remove the baffles and cut them in half. Will I need to re-jet the carb. I do notice a little puff of black smoke when I rev it up. Will cutting the baffles in half, make it lean out a bit?

it may lean it out some but, you may be able to play with the air /fuel mixture a little to fix that issue.

Was your carburetor jetted previous to you getting your bike? If so, don't jet it more unless you need to. Too much fuel is a bad thing, too little is a bad thing. If you have a exhaust gas analyzer, use it and see where you are at. If you do not have one, set your carburetor up per the instructions on S&S's website and go from there. Plug color is a very good indication as to the proper fuel to air ratio on your particular engine in your area (altitude). You should be aiming at plugs that are camel in color.

More than likely it was rejeted when the pipes was changed, but you can pull the main out and if it has a 74 in it they have not been changed and you need to change the main and inter. with a 31 inter, and a 78 main.

Thanks for the help guys. I believe it was jetted when they put the pipes on it. It was done at the Big Dog Dealership in OH.

Check your plugs, they will tell you what's what. If they are light brown, (camel) then you should be good. If they are clean, or whitish grey, you may be a little lean in the rpm range that you are riding around. If the plugs are dark brown to black, then you may be a little on the "fat" side in the rpm range that you are operating in.
