had mine in and out three times before it was finaly right, took the starter to a reman shop here in phx az when it would not start after I trailered it home and they replaced the wire that engages the selinoid I beleive, and it burnt again, trailered it home again and they replaced the # 14 awg with a # 10, trailered it home again and we took it apart, every screw nut bolt coil winding etc while I was there in his shop and found that at the factory when it was built there was a thick steel housing that fits around a coil that was never crimped together giving only an intermitant path to ground, i hope this helps someone to know that while it is out and apart they need to look deep into everything cause like you said what the $#&$#
p.s. not a mechanic hope it made since.

Glad you enjoyed that fucker....lol:lol::roll::roll::roll:
Most have been there and done that! The trick is not to admit it!:roll::roll:Could be like me. I took the 2 bolts out(after the exhaust) and it didn't drop so I figured I had the bolt in the primary. Took primary off and no bolt. Went back and jerked on starter again and it came right out. What a dumb ass I was. My lead from my solenoid to starter was loose and corroded. Hope that was my problem. Started today who knows about tomorrow
