With all the long threads about the unfortunate financial situation at BDM, I just wanted to say something positive about these bikes.
First of all I have been riding for over 30 years, and have owned many bikes, each one I have thrown lots of money at trying to make it look custom. No matter how much I spent and how cool the paint and add-ons looked, they still never looked much different than factory stock( at least from a distance). I have always dreamed of having a real Custom chopper.
For years I have researched the possibility of owning my own true custom bad ass bike. But with limited budget, I had to keep affordability as a priority. I looked at home made customs, but insuring them or borrowing money to buy them, was usualy not an option or even possible. Additionaly, I didn't feel I could trust the safety of a home made bike. I looked at building my own bike. Again the cost of all the parts got outragous! Then looked at big famous named builders like Yaffe, Ness, James, and even OCC, and more, the cost was way out of the realm of possiblity and again not able to be financed unless a second mortgage was taken out.
Then I looked at production customes such as BigDog, Big Bear, Ironhorse, Swift and Victory. These were closer to my budget so the search was on! After a few more years of pondering, I made up my mind that Bigdog was the most attractive, affordable, had plenty of perfomance and several models to choose from. Still I dreamed of buying one for a couple more years.
So late last year I decided it was now or never. Could have bought new, but decided on gently a used one.
So why did I choose Bigdog? Because I found this site! After reading so many tech posts, trouble shooting, and where to find repair parts and aftermarket parts, and so many cool people that simply love thier Dogs. In addition My bank actually gave loans for Bigdogs (new or used), where as they did not for anyother Custom. Now I have the bike of my dreams at 51 years old. Have no worries because this forum has the best support I have ever seen. With all the knowledge here, I have no doubt that we can keep all our bikes, in perfect working order (new or used), without warranty, relying on dealers (no offense to dealers intended).
Let's face it, if you own a bike like these, that have so much power and vibration, etc, things are sure to act up. But any problem you have, you are sure to find a solution right here!
