Bike wouldn't start...bought new battery from HD shop. Bike started and ran for about 2 days. Then the dreaded flasher/honk and no start. Took battery back to HD and they said it was bad and replaced it. Put battery on charger overnight and put it in and it started right up. Ran for another couple days and then went to ride and CLICK,CLICK,CLICK. Used jump/charger to jump bike off and went and rode for about 10 miles. Stopped to get gas and bike wouldnt start....so jumped it off and fired right up. Rode it home and parked it. Figured it was the VR and bought a new one. Installed it and now all I get is a CLICK (single) after leaving bike on charger overnight. Lights are very bright since replacing VR, so i have a hunch that was some of the issue. Next step is checking the starter and EHC controls. Am I on the right path or barking up the wrong tree???

Check the stator and VR for proper output first.
Then check for a key off power drain.
Double check your VR wiring. Also what VR did you use -- Shunt regulators are not recommeded for BDM if I recall correctly.
Search -- there are threads on here about stator output levels so you can test.

It could also be wires shorting out somewhere.l maybe your battery cables?

I replaced it with a BDM VR.

Well might be the stator. When bike is running check the voltage with a meter should be 14+ volts at 2k RPM.

You can also pull the VR plug and just check stator output it's AC voltage NOT DC. Should go up about 10v DC for every 1k RPM. You should be in the 40-60v AC range, if memory serves me right

Start the bike and check for 14v+ when it's cold. If you have a charger dongle off the battery, this is where you can easily probe into those two wires with the meter. Ride the bike or better yet, tape the meter probes at the dongle, tape the meter to the tank so you can watch the volts, ride it so you get the stator hot and now watch the meter drop volts down to 12v = Stator [when hot].

I hate to ask but, how did you wire the new VR, ran the wire all the way back to the circuit breaker or fuse? Straight to battery positive?

I do believe your having starter issues now...u can pull the green wire off the starter and check voltage going to the wire that signals the starter....there is a thread on here about the right amount of current on the green wire while ur holding the start button with the green wire off the starter... or this could be another issue benedix is not engaging or stuck....like reddick said check ur contacts....but i believe everyone else is right also...i believe voltage has caused alot of your troubles and caused the starter issues...low voltage will kill a starter...low voltage is the worst on any system...it takes just as much power to disengage a starter as it does to engage it..also low voltage will pit your contacts as reddick is saying....but you still need to check all the charging system to make sure its working correctly if not this problem will come right back even with a new starter or contacts or pcb board...

Double check to be sure ALL cables were connected when installing the new battery. Not a bad idea to take off the side covers and have a good look.

WELL......I can report that the replacement battery from HD is also NO GOOD. I took the battery to Oreillys just for shits and giggles to see if it was good. So I picked up one of theirs (which I know everybody bags on Super Start but Ihad in my street bob and never once had an issue)....looking foward to getting off work and seeing if that fixes my dilemma. Thanks for the input and I’ll update
