I need to buy a backrest and luggage rack. There is nothing indicating if my chop is a RT or a DT. There seems to be a difference in price and fitting. Does anyone know how to distinguish one from the other?Matthew's 8th Birthday Party 2008 064.JPG

It's in your VIN #. The codes have been posted on here many times. Let me see if I can find it again.
The difference is in the motor mounts and some say the pegs were shorter on the DT or Daytec frame or better for short people. The RT or Rolling Thunder frame was recalled in that year for frame breakage.

Here it is:
If you have a DT it should have a T in the VIN. Mines an RT so I have an N. And your project # on the opposite side of the VIN will start with this code.

Based on this it's a RT because it has a N not a T. Thanks for your help. This site has been a strong resource of information. I really appreciate your efforts!

The difference will be in the rear fender struts for your question. Whether they sissy bar drops in from the top or slides in from the rear.

An easy way to find out if its a DT or a RT is to look on your frame between the heads. A RT ( Rolling Thunder ) will have this logo on it.

You will also have to buy the strut kit because the 03's wernt set up for a sissy bar/back rest.

There are actually like a half dozen tell tale things to look for. That is one. So is the forward controls/motor mount and the swing arm ends.
