Where the hell do we get engine parts now?

My dealer just said any engine parts for BD are almost impossible to come by, can someone shed a little light on this?

Thank you!

So, excuse my ignorance, but for instance, if I need a complete new motor, I could get the same one that is in my mastiff from S&S and it could just be swapped in? Without any issues as far as mounting, etc.?

Thanks again.

yes you can get a motor from s&s that will bolt in and be ready to go.
S&s made the the motors. The only differences are the ones sold to big dog had to meet the current EPA stuff. There were a couple years where big dog did some of the Assembly work to cut costs and also used some TP heads ect.
Most of the people here try to "de" EPA our stuff so it runs as it should or better...

As stryfox said as well as cams, lifters, heads, gaskets etc. The S&S parts can be obtained from just about any dealer or bike shop. Sounds like the one you talked to just don't know. :D

I don't think S&S are making 117 motors right now, might want to check into that. I inquired about buying one last year and was told it would take some time for them to build one if they could, i ended up buying one locally...

I'm down in Tucson, AZ. I don't think I need the whole engine, not sure what the hell is going on at the moment. Other than, I changed my oil, F-up and put the tappet screen in upside down, rode for a bit, then started to hear an engine sound that I had'nt heard before. Doesn't make the noise right away when you start it up, but about 20 seconds in. Sounds like a "bearing" kinda noise, not squeally though... I know the manual says if you have the tappet screen messed up, you can get lifter noise, problems, etc. I think that's what it sounds like, but I don't know enough. Again, everything was running perfect, until after the oil change. 3500 miles on the bike.

I'm sick to my stomach that I put that in backwards.

Thanks

Everything is available for the 117's, but they are focussing their efforts on the 124's.

Fix the screen and put an oil press gauge on it....see what you get.

A competent v-twin tech should be able to diagnose what is the issue.....he'll the litters might just be collapsed and need to pump back up...gauge will tell you more.

There is a good shop in tucson... Just can't remember the name.. It's off freeway and speedway about 1 blk mike owns place not a Bdm place anymore. But there good.. If bill one of the tech s is still there he's really good.. No problem with him working on bike. But take the time and do it yourself... Peace

mofaster, find a new dealer because it sounds like they have no clue as to what they are talking about.

Let us know what the results of a reversed tappet screen are, once you get it figured out. Thanks :2thumbs:

I would definately ,without a doubt find me a new Bike Mechanic......
I agree with that!! There's plenty of parts out there and plenty of places to get them. He just didn't want to work on it and was taking advantage of you not knowing about these engines.

 Did you try calling S&S and asking what might happen if the tappet screen was installed upside down? Just asking and they should know!

I sure hope it wasn't victory that told you no parts.. I had really good luck with them for warranty work. Now no way in hell will I let a shop work on it if I can. Peace
