Wheel run-out

I am in the process of replacing my front wheel hubs with new one after I have them chromed. (long story!) Obviously. no index mark to match to the existing wheel that is chrome as well. In regard to the run-out specification; do I need to have it checked and if it is more then the 0.030 tolerance do I have any option? I understand the process, just not sure what direction to go at this point. I thought if a wheel exceeded the listed tolerances it was trashed. BTW; the hubs I purchased are new form BDPP Can someone set me straight?

.030" seems like a lot. I forget how much run-out a spoke style has?

X = Side to Side, or wobble induced effect.
Y = Up and down, or egg shaped is give the shocks a workout.

So, I don't think you want a run-out @:

X = .030"
Y = .030"

There is no index with a spoke to rim to hub. There is your first inner spoke to the rim's angle. Everything else being equal, you could get it a lot closer. The more you float the rim to hub, the closer your tolerance, the better wheel-man you become. Takes a lot of patients and the rest is an art.

Check Wheel Runout (from my 07 Manual)

remove wheel and tire
set up wheel and tire in truing stand
using a dial indicator check the total indicator runout (TIR) on the tire bead seat of the rim.

TIR should not exceed .030

I would like to see it a bit better than .030 but this is the max.

I ran my 04 Chopper with a runout over .045 for a year and you couldn't even notice when going down the road. The Yamaha I built with the junk DNA wheels has a bent front and rear and I've put close to 30k on that thing. Never even bothered to check the runout. If the wheel holds the bead and the thing ain't weaving at 70mph just run it.
