Wheel bearing question?

I'm replacing rear bearings and have noticed that I have two options on the seal type. Metal or rubber. Any reason I cant use metal seals? looks like they
would last longer.

2007 Bulldog wheel bearings by Timken/Fafnir

Just bought new Timken (front/rear) bearing sets for our bikes the other day. The Timkens are more expensive but are a higher quailty bearing compared to the Chinese BDM replacements. It cost me about $150.00 for the front/rear sets in Timken.

Timken part# 205KDD2, Rears 3pcs
Timken part# 204PP4 Z22-P, Fronts 2pcs

I would definetly go with Timken or equivelant bearing. You get what you pay for. One tow will pay for the new bearing.

Are these the same part numbers for an 05 chopper?

At What Mileage Do You Recommend Replacing Wheel Bearings?

I've got a 2008 EFI K9 with 3500 miles. Those of you that have had bearing problems or accumulated more total mileage than me, at what mileage would you recommend replacing front/rear wheel bearings? Thanks.

I changed my front tire last year at 5,000 miles and left the front bearings because they seemed to be fine. I changed my rear tire at 11,000 miles and swapped the bearings out because the one was seizing up on me.

I think about 10K miles is a good estimate on preventive maintenance on bearings, unless you hear them prior to that.
