S & S Motors` Most Reliable?

Cecil, trying to name or try to pick the "best" is purely a subjective exercise. As many motors as S & S builds the fact remains that the vast majority are "Evo" in design, except for the 20% variance in design necessary to be able to skirt the copyright infringement laws to keep the folks at Harley at bay. We weren`t including the X-Wedge motor or Sportster, were we?
Take your pick! S & S is the best so enjoy whatever size you have.

I really like my S&S 107 in my 03 Pit Bull, but, I also like the S&S 111 in my 06 LSC Iron Horse. Both Great motors. If S&S made coffee, I would drink it in the morning. Better yet S&S beer, for when it is beer thirty....

My 107" launched when i would crack it open, lots of torque at the snap of the wrist....but my 117" definitely has more to it....especially when I crack it open at about 2000 rpm's in 3rd gear and run it through the gears...it runs away from the pack....there all good reliable motors, it depends on the rider how you ride and how you maintain your equipment...for me there is no replacement for displacement...Big Inch Motors

Engenuity 147" billet motor puts out 200hp

I LOVE my 107!!!!!! But, I have had people tell me the 107 has a closer square bore & Stroke. Guess what it doesn't.107=4'' bore x 4 1/4'' stroke. The 117=4 1/8'' bore x 4 3/8 stroke.

Here are two vids of the 111 vs 117 bone stock, same shop. Makes the 111 appear to be a damn good motor, until that emissions compliant stuff takes over.

so the stock 111 makes quite a bit more power and torque then a stock 117...aside from the 2-1 pipe what is the difference? How much bigger of a cam does the 111 in the lsc have then the big dog mastiff in the vid? It sounds like the lsc is revving much higher then even the 600 lift cam in the last vid.

The 111 is a square motor meaning bore and stoke are equal and they have always proven to be the most efficent and reliable combination most 111`s were non epa so it didnt take a hole lot to beat Bigdogs EPA 117 espeacially in 05

You reely wanta make a Dawg fast put a Non epa 124 in it and do some head work and dump the 640 cam you still got reliable long as you haint just plain stupid

The 117 in my '05 Chopper has done well. It didn't need anything until it hit about 58,000 miles at which point a valve guide broke (POS TP rocker box!), sending a peice of metal into the oil pump. The engine also needed to be bored as it was so out of round. Now, at 87,000 miles, it has a leaking lower head gasket, and most likely the need for honing or boring as it's burning oil again.

I don't know how this compares with other S&S sizes out there, but that's my experience with this one.

I can understand a newbie asking the question.
But really that is the same as asking your dad which is the best woman to marry.

S&S by far is the most popular and the most expensive motor for custom bikes.
All sizes are reliable as far as I know. I've heard some vibrate more than others,
and some of the later years have some smog related issues, most of them were used in
Production Custom bikes.
S&S you get what you pay for .

Love the 107 on my 02 Pit. Engine has been bullet proof. Just wish I could find someone that could get the damn carb jetted and set up right since I've brought the bike back to SC.

Does anyone know what is done to the 117's to restrict them ? Is it something in the motor itself or possibly in the ignition / ecu module? Can it be un-done ?
