No not really. The Autometer speedo needle is driven by electronics and a stepper motor instead of the old school speedo magnet cup design. When the speedo electronics gets powered-on it sweeps the needle, looks at the speedo signal input (zero MPH) and goes to a known HOME position (zero MPH). More or less.
It's a function of the speedo electronics POWERing UP to reset the zero MPH state, thus still allowing it to do the same with a Wire+ installed.
The ECH more than likely had the programmable ability to cycle power to the speedo unit thus allowing the EHC to do a second speedo power-on reset.
Hope this answers your question.
Oh yes I think I did. You just didn't ask your question completely. No not really.
I have a Dakota Digital speedo and yes it does cycle at the turn of the key and the tacho well all the lights come on and stay on till you twist the throttle.
My Manual says that part number 176-000003-00 is the std part number.
I would like to know wether either or both of the following will fit and not fry my system 172-000097-00 Rev A or 176-000007-00 Rev B.
I am not ready to install a WP at this point and there is nothing wrong with my existing EHC, but living in Australia and not having a BDM agent just around the corner i am stocking up on parts for Justin (just in case).
Jeffm
Bro they are the BDM part numbers of 2 EHC's that are for sale on ebay at present.Oh yes I think I did. You just didn't ask your question completely.
What the heck are 176-000003-00, 172-000097-00 Rev A or 176-000007-00 Rev B.?
Thats a good one, other than disco lighting i have no idea sorry, as long as your scoot goes and doesn't stop without your permission i suppose in my mind all's well.Guys,
Sorry to jump in here with my own prob, just a question please... when I turn the key.. my speedo does thre readings.. first 60,000 (more or lesss) then 800 something (the miles in theory the Dog has) and then the trip meter... QUESTION: What is the first reading????
Thanks guys!
You should see a 49xxx? or 42xxx? I can't remember off hand, number flash in the odometer which is the calibration (pulses per mile) factory setup. Don't know when in the sequence of what you describe though.Guys,

@2.5 x to be exactIs the speedometer setup for miles of kilometers?
I would think if it were kilometers then the calibration number would be smaller, if I thinking correctly and kilometer is shorter than a mile.
