some of the really early '07s still had the EHC with the round port but the newer one's and the '08s had the USB port which seems like it had less frequent problems, but unfortunately they still crapped out. when they wrote the "fix" for the speedometer to re-sweep, it could only be done to the USB EHC.

And tell me this...the speedo does a sweep when key is turned on. What is it doing? And when you add the wire plus it still does it. I thought it did this with only the EHC installed bikes. Thought is was checking cuircuits or something like that.

The Autometer speedo needle is driven by electronics and a stepper motor instead of the old school speedo magnet cup design. When the speedo electronics gets powered-on it sweeps the needle, looks at the speedo signal input (zero MPH) and goes to a known HOME position (zero MPH). More or less.

It's a function of the speedo electronics POWERing UP to reset the zero MPH state, thus still allowing it to do the same with a Wire+ installed.

The ECH more than likely had the programmable ability to cycle power to the speedo unit thus allowing the EHC to do a second speedo power-on reset.

Hope this answers your question.

No not really.
I have a Dakota Digital speedo and yes it does cycle at the turn of the key and the tacho well all the lights come on and stay on till you twist the throttle.
My Manual says that part number 176-000003-00 is the std part number.

I would like to know wether either or both of the following will fit and not fry my system 172-000097-00 Rev A or 176-000007-00 Rev B.
I am not ready to install a WP at this point and there is nothing wrong with my existing EHC, but living in Australia and not having a BDM agent just around the corner i am stocking up on parts for Justin (just in case).

Oh yes I think I did. You just didn't ask your question completely.

What the heck are 176-000003-00, 172-000097-00 Rev A or 176-000007-00 Rev B.?

I was hoping that if i miss out on one i may get the other..............if the bloody thing fits and don't fry my circuits.

You should see a 49xxx? or 42xxx? I can't remember off hand, number flash in the odometer which is the calibration (pulses per mile) factory setup. Don't know when in the sequence of what you describe though.

That was my understanding.... it shows 60xxx!!! in the morning I will write it down and let you know. Things is i have no idea where from the US come from.... brrrrr..... and... I do NOT believe she has only 800 miles! any of you guys, have a friend who would be able to check it out with the VIN number? :D It would be great!

I will have to "open" her up and do a visual to find out what is she wearing. starting by the jets. Carb is driving me nuts.... lots of bangs.. both ways... air filter & exhaust. but once kicks in the main jet (over 3 K RPM she runs just great. spark plugs ALWAYS black though...

Is the speedometer setup for miles of kilometers?

I would think if it were kilometers then the calibration number would be smaller, if I thinking correctly and kilometer is shorter than a mile.

1 kilometer = 0.621371192 miles
