The first year any manufacturer make any drastic changes will have many issues, having said that 05 was probably BDM’s most resent challenge IE: EHC, Weak Carrier, Voltage Regulator, TP Rocker Boxes.
They have also done a good job of stepping up to the plate and all these issues are out in the open now and wont make me get rid of mine nor would it keep me from buying another one, though I would do as much research before I pursued that action but I would suggest doing that on any used bike!!!
I love my 05 and don’t hesitate to jump on it a ride any time any where. (of course not right now but look out next year!!!:bang:)

'03 chopper here and have had no major problems to date. I did have to replace the starter 2 years ago but that could have been from normal wear and tear. KNOCK ON WOOD!

I would agree, 2003 and older would probably be the most reliable. Unless you get a "Good" 2008-09.
That's what I'm saying. 2004 was when BDM thought up the fuckin brilliant idea that they could assemble motors better than S&S, make controls and electronics better than HD, then in 2005 they figured they could make a trans better than Baker, a Primary better than HD made by baker to bdm specs, and that S&S is wrong by using their own rockers, so they used TP, but not even good TP rocker boxes, some cheap ass shit!

In 2004 is when BDM thought they could out engineer the people that have been doing it for long before. Stupid!

However...

As said here... bdm is usually good about covering all the items. As long as you dont mind the down time and/or lack of trust in the bike.

07 has to be a good year. I've seen very few problems on here for 2007's

and wasn't it night train that said BDM got their act together for the electronics in 2007??

Not to sound like a smart ass, but I bet 2010 has had the least amout os issues.

Perhaps a better indicator: There are bad owners, and then there are better owners

What I like about my 03 Chop is availability of aftermarket parts....from pipes to mirrors....all standard HD softail stuff. I admit sitting next to a new K9 is looks a little puny/weak, but it has served me well and still stops traffic and turns heads. I can't imagine needing more than a 107 can deliver.

I have some sort of EHC unit under the seat, but it hasn't given me a problem "also...knock on wood"
