What size headlight?

My headlight (the actual glass part where the bulb is inserted) no longer has any reflectivity. It is extremely dull and spotted on the inside and the backside of the glass has that fogged look like car headlights get. The low beam is so dim (even though a brand new bulb), that it barely throws any light on the road.

Can I just get any 7" headlight or is it specific to big dog? OK, after searching it appears it's a 5 3/4 inch. Will any work?

Thanks for any info.

Some guys have used Ajure. It does not have to be BDM, but the mount might be different. Don't just buy a bucket because it might not fit to the BDM mount on your bike. Wiring is usually 2 wires if my memory serves me correctly.

5 3/4 headlight lens is what you need. J & P Cycles and just about anyone has them.

Well yesterday I replaced the headlight and added the Sylvania Silverstar at the same time. I opted for a stock replacement headlight as it was half the cost of the others and only a fifteen minute ride versus an hour (one way). I needed the light immediately so online wasn't an option.

In switching out the light I noticed that the front set screw was stripped completely and ulitimately I had to drill it out. I ended up drilling and retapping both screws to a slightly larger size. I unbolted the bucket to do this. In doing so, I noticed that most of the chrome on the bottom of the bucket was peeling off.

On the plus side, the trim ring and the retainer inside, both unscrewed easily. And now, I have light!

I don't have much luck with the Silverstars. Keep a extra bulb somewhere if you can just in case it goes out. The Silverstars don't take vibration well.
