WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT

Bringing my 06 K-9 (carbed) to a guy who came highly recommended. What do I expect to get with a tune? I know this is probably motorcycle engines 101, but I always like to have some info in case he asks me any questions.

Thanks

Is he tuning your carb? I would expect him to go through carb and get everything set up properly. Bike should idle well, excellerate well, and should not be running rich or lean.

Every now and then when I get on the throttle it pops/misses and then takes off strong. Got some backfires when coming off the throttle as well.

More preventative than anything. I would assume a tune would be just the carb, correct?

On the popping, are those pipes baffled? If not, you will get popping when letting off the throttle. My Martin Brother Madussa's pop Fire out when I let off. Carb has been set twice and both mechanic's say the same thing. Nonbaffle short pipes =poping!

For a 117, I would expect 105 HP +/- 5 and 115 ftlbs of torque +/-5.

Your problem could be as simple as adjust the throttle accellerator. They're kinda finiky but S&S has a good "how to" adjust it. It may be that your carb needs re-jetting or just a good cleaning. I would expect a "tune up" would include a carb rebuild/adjustment, new plugs, new fluids, check/adjust primary chain, inspect/check tension on drive belt, check brake pads/fluid, check tire pressure/tread wear, tighten bolts, inspect all lights and finish up with a test ride.

I think you should be asking your wrench the question also.

If it's just a carb the S&S site will tell you how to do it and you can download the Carb Manual free and DIY.
