What should I expect to pay for a new rear tire?

The rear tire on my ’08 Pitbull looks like it MAY have 4-500 miles left on it- and it’s the original tire. The age alone is bothersome to me, especially when I think about having the Mrs on the back. I’m a new owner and just looking to see what I should expect to pay for a new rear Avon + labor. And, I’m assuming my choices in that size are limited?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Mines a 250-18 was just a little over $200.00 from j&p. I took the wheels off and went to the Harley shop and it was $50.00 a wheel to mount.:nonod:

Oh boy ...08 pitbull you got the one problem tire that was discontinued however you just got in luck. Big Dog just ordered a batch, you have to buy from them only show in town with a 280.

Search the forum for their number although they are in Sturgis now

Thanks for the link Scott. It helped a buddy with a weird size HD tire. He thought his only option was a dealer. He found several on AMT!

Thanks guys. Damn, not getting warm fuzzy on the discontinued tire. Is a 280 the only size I can run on it?

Jason I believe you have a 20" rear wheel on that bike, that's what makes it so difficult to find, as far as the 280 width, I also believe that is all that comes in a 20" wheel size, my buddy has the same bike and just paid $400.00 for his, I am sure there are better deals out there though, good luck! :old2::cheers:

That eBay auction is the new big dog. Sounds like $400 is the going price. In reality it's not bad 1-2 years ago some folks had them shipped from Europe.

Can't blame you for not having a warm fuzzy feeling. Lol.
Jason, I'd buy this one up asap brudda! :yesnod: :old2:

Thanks gents!! Ordered!

I must say I'm not overly thrilled paying $440 for a tire from the ONLY vendor that has them and who happens to be the same vendor that built the bike with a 20" rim with limited production of this size tire. From some internet browsing it looks like WHEN others sold this tire it was available for as little as $300? Now the most expensive tire I could find is the 280/18 Metzler ME880 for 326.00

Guess I should be "thankful" that I could even find one and that I don't have to purchase an entire new rim in order to accommodate tires that are readily available? :oldconfused:. Oh well, not the end of the world, just annoying. :oldbang:

Again, appreciate the link. Must be fairly new as I looked on Ebay 7-10 days ago?

Yea you might want to think about getting some new rims in the future with a more available tire size. Good time to go chrome!

I can't be sure but I don't think It's Big Dogs fault it wasn't a special tire when they built it. Back in the fat tire craze that was a standard Avon model, not something special for Big dog. Avon discontinued it due to lack of sales. The new Big dog ponied up around 200K for Avon to make a special run of 280 to keep the 08's running that's why the tire is now $400. That was Avon's minimum order to run them.
