What RPMs do you idle at?

I fire up my 05 Chopper DT.
For a half second the RPM gauge alternates between 500 and 1000 RPMs.
Immediately thereafter the gauge starts blinking full range (green through red), all on then all off, similar to if you stall the bike.
After a couple minutes the gauge settles onto 1000 RPMs.
All good thereafter.
I'm thinking I have my idle set to low but I hesitate to change it without gathering feedback first since it does run smoothly once it does settle down to 1000 RPMs.
Any thoughts?

I believe without researching around 800 is where the lights start to blink.

You could use you inricher for a short time when you first start it up. How cold was it? That usually happens below 50 degrees.

Your idle should be set at 1000-1100 rpm, many guys set their idle too low so they can hear more lope, this is not good for your motor..

If I adjust the idle, do I need to / should I adjust any other carb settings or can the idle be adjusted independently?

The idle should be the last thing adjusted. You want to set the idle a little higher when tuning it. Once done you set the idle.

So I installed a G-carb, out of box factory settings.
I assume everything's set properly and all I have to do is turn the idle screw clockwise a tad?

when you first turn the key on, do you give the tach time to go through it's self-check? that is where the tach will go through all the light flashing. do not rush it, after things settle down, then you start the motor.

Made sure the needle rested back on the bottom before starting.
Fired her up and since my throttle is sticky, rather than forcing it back closed after starting, I left it slightly open to let it gradually close on it's own over the course of a few seconds.
No flashing RPM gauge, all good, thanks!

have you lube'd your throttle and clutch cables with 'cable life" (sic) spray Teflon lube? that might help.

a lot of the things you are experiencing are things that were told to original owners by the dealership but were not passed on to the subsequent buyers. this is the reason we are here. owning a Big Dog should not be a complete hassle.
