Just wanted to know what octane rating most of you guys use,I think the owners manual says 87, but is the higher grades any better for the bikes.
thanks

Hey Wayne, I see you bought it...congrats on that new bike! I've sorta wondered the same thing about octane, I've been running 93 in mine.

Nothing less than 91 here, I thought the bike required premium. Maybe more seasoned owners know better. I carry a small bottle of booster in case I can't get the 91.

I run 91/93 in mine, however it has run off 87 with no problems. If you have stock, 87 should do fine but I go with the higher octane due to never sure if the rating is accurate for the OR since it can vary at times.

If you have no knocking or pinging, you are good to go in general. Also if you do a search, I am pretty sure there was some older threads on this with many discussions.

been discussed many times before, but the skinny on the subject is to try to find the stations with a hose for each octane and stick with the 91 and above. the reason for the separate hose is that, with only getting 3-4 gallon at a time, more than likely the last guy got regular and this will draw the octane that you are getting down quite a bit. yes, the book says it will run on regular but it doesn't run as well.

not a dog, but usually mid grade from exxon. might be nuts but i think sheetz gas is watered down a bit:lol:

Always 93. Recently used a tank of 110 Sunoco 110 race fuel. Main difference I noticed was incredible throttle response. $9.60/gallon is a little high though...

The 2006 manual says 87 octane, but I have never used 87 and very few tanks of 89 (maybe two). Unfortunately most stations around here only have a single hose so the first half gallon or so is whatever the person who used the pump before put in, so try to follow a BMW, Porsche, etc to the pump.
