what might cause this?

I have a squeaking that sounds like brakes when I start letting out my clutch lever. It goes away when the lever is all the way out and doesn't make any noise while riding.
It doesn't do it all the time.
This started about 2 weeks after I had the dealer adjust my clutch. I was having a problem getting the bike in neutral when stopped. I can get the trans in neutral easy now but I've got this noise

What do you guys think could cause this?

07 K-9 should already have the revised clutch rod. The rod may need greased. When you pull the clutch in the rod pushes the pressure plate out. Some times the rod flexes and touchs the main shaft.
Does the clutch lever feel ok?

You may want to use anti-seize rather than grease.
I agree if may be your clutch rod. Lube the clutch handle also, maybe it's pivot is dry and squeeking.

the only moving parts when you let out on the clutch lever would be
1) throw-out bearing
2) clutch plates
3) main shaft of the trans

check the fluid levels in the primary and the trans to see if either is low. also, check to see if you have plenty of grease on the ramp and the clutch rod.

Yet on another note My cluch seemed ok until the 500 mile ck up . now it slips under power twist of the right hand. the cable is set good but now it slips on take off and when trying to pass all the slow traffic. the dealer now wants to look at cluch hub nut.
Is this the problem or is their other things going on????????:bang:

since they adjusted the clutch, do you still have full clutch lever or has it gone slack toward the bars? if the clutch lever has gone slack in just a few (50-100) miles, more than likely it is the clutch hub nut.

maybe they just fucked up the adjustment if it only started happening after the service. Readjust it and see what happens. Do you know if they mess with the clutch hub nut when doing a service?

I pulled things apart and found the clutch rod bone dry. Damn dealer must have never greased it at the 5k service.

I'm going to put some miles on it and see if the noise is gone. I went for a test ride and no noise
However, after adjusting the clutch neutral is a problem again.
The dealer said i had a lot of free play when they did the last adjustment

So does the clutch rod determine the amount of freeplay?
I'm wondering if the dealer cranked the rod in so far that it flexed causing it to rub some on the main shaft. Is this possible?

after the dealer adjusted the clutch getting it in neutral was a breeze

T, adjusting the clutch rod determines the amount of push that seperates the clutch pack via the ball and ramp. First you adjust the clutch rod by turning it in till you feel resistance then back it out 1/4 turn and lock it in place. The you take out all the slack you put in the clutch cable (prior to clutch rod adjustment) till you have about a 1/8 to 1/16" gap at the clutch lever.

The clutch rod adjustment can be night and day difference with just a minute turn of the clutch rod so playing and experimenting with it can get you where you want it set. It shouldn't flex at all inside the mainshaft. But give it a good coat of antisieze.

I wanted to use anti-sieze on the rod but had none at the house. Due to Gasman always running his mouth about buying something or using this I purchased a can of Mobile 1 grease and had it on the shelve and used it on the clutch rod....It worked good too..
I think Chris was rambling on about putting grease on the outside of his wheel bearings when I bought it.......

I follow those instructions but as Ray mentions there is some room for error or different adjustment.

I rode quite a bit today and the noise is gone I re adjusted this morning and it goes in neutral easier but still not like before so i have some more tweaking to do.

I noticed today that if you loosen the cable a lot then you can screw the rod in farther with just your fingers


The thing is it shifts fine but getting it to go into neutral like butter is a little harder to adjust

You are supposed to completely loosen the cable before making any clutch adjustment, every time.Thats why you are getting a different "feeling" when you try to adjust with the cable tight.

You are supposed to completely loosen the cable before making any clutch adjustment, every time.Thats why you are getting a different "feeling" when you try to adjust with the cable tight.

Thanks you are right it has to be loosened all the way
Tonight I adjusted it again and went in one turn more and the clutch slipped so I backed it out 1/2 turn and it goes in neutral like butter now


I'm going to put some miles on it this week before our ride to mexico this weekend
