What is this noise

Alright here goes and I will get some video with sound ASAP. When the bike has been sitting lets say overnight and I come out in the morning to start. it make a really bad sound. (wish I could describe it better but its a screech)

Sounds like it is coming from the primary it is loud and will do it a few times. sometimes I will put the bike in gear and roll it forward the bike will turn over but have noticed that it is getting harder to catch lately. (thinking clutch) but I just had the plates rebuilt.

The transmission was sent back to baker who and excuse the term not sure exactly what they did to it but lets just say overhaul not sure if this noise would be the tranny but who knows.

I removed the inspection plate cover and nothing appears loose with as little as you can see with the plates. I drained the primary fluid and the noise is still there.

Bike runs fine other than the noise any pointers?? and I will post a video with sound soon.

Question:When you say you roll it forward and the bike will turn over, but getting harder to catch, Do you mean the starter won't engage unless you do this? Once the bike is running is the sound gone? or only when you press the start button?

If you can add a video with sound that might help us... But if I understand what you are describing is that that stater does not engage and just sqeels unless you roll the bike forward in gear? Sounds like the maybe the starter bendix in jamming instead of meshing with the teeth on the clutch hub, flywheel. You may want to pull the starter and check the teeth, or pull the outer primary cover , clean up all the oil mess, remove the spark plugs, and then hit the starter button and see it in action?

I concur Ken,

Sounds like the starter is not engaging the flywheel. Almost sounds like there may a few teeth missing on the flywheel and / or starter.

agree with ray, sounds like the starter is not being thrown in all the way.

I agree with Ray check the simple things first. But really sounds like the starter drive.

Thanks will do. I just replaced the starter last year. Looks like I will need to open the primary case. I will start first with measuring the battery. keep it simple! although it hasn't had a problem with the fire. I am leaning torwards the starter not engaging the wheel. It does it until i roll the bike either forward or backward then feels like it catches.

Take the green wire on your starter off and squeeze the terminal tight and slide it back on to the spade to make sure it is making good contact.

I am going to start working on this Sunday and will post what I find. I really dont want to dig into the primary as the bike is running good once it starts. But should take care of this before it becomes a bigger problem.
