What is the EHC issue?

Hi guys,
I've been reading about all these issues with the EHC module. Could someone explain to me what I should be looking for, and is this a big problem on the 2003 choppers. Should I just go ahead and do the wire-plus mod that I've been reading about.

All the original owner did was have the bike serviced as required. Other then that, he just rode it. Nice trouble free bike. All this bad EHC talk has me spooked now.

Thanks for educating me on this,

Bill

don't be spooked by it until you got a problem of your own. The EHC's can be too quickly blamed for problems that are not the EHC at all. If your bike runs then ride it - don't waste time worrying about what might never happen

The only issue my bike has had was, the original owner went through a few starters until they solved the problem. Other then that, he just rode it. Nice trouble free bike. All this bad EHC talk has me spooked now.

Older bikes like yours (and mine) don't have any issues with the EHCs (to my knowledge). When BD went to a new unit that controls more stuff, it started getting squirelly. I'm pretty sure that's the deal but if I'm wrong, someone else with a newer bike will chime in.....

I have a 06 K9 and i'm on my third EHC. Some of the first EHC's didn't hold up to good. The one I've got now is the newest version with a USB plug. I've had it for over a year and no problems. Hopefully the new EHC's are good to go. Don't hear to much about them having problems anymore on the newer dogs. Maybe they've fixed the problem. I think there were three different models of EHC's and you could tell the difference in them by the interface plugs. One had a round plug, one had a plug like a firewire (I think) and the newest one has a USB plug.

Thanks guys,
I just wanted to know in advance if this was one of those things that would be a problem, if not now, it would in the future.

I've still got 3 feet of snow in the front yard, so if this was an issue, now would be the time to get rid of it. Your right about the fact that if it ain't broken, dont worry about it and just ride. It hit 53 degrees today. It was real tempting to take it out and go for a ride.

Thanks again,

Bill
