What is the deal with Mastiff gas tanks?

I have 04 Mastiff and another thing to check is the crossover line...I had some type of crap (for lack of a better word) in the crossover line which cut my fuel down to about 1/2.

The left cap should come off. If it is stuck that bad you are probably going to have to take a pipe wrench to it and buy another cap....:down:

By god I got it today. I took a hammer and chisle to that sucker it took me about 10 or 15 whacks but I got it. I think the paint save came off with it though.

Be careful not to top all the way off for the left side will leak out a little bit on the kick stand unless you rode it a few miles after fill up.

Great reminder FS :2thumbs:....this happened to a friend of mine and over time it ruined his paint :bang: .

I have a 03 Mastiff and had the same problems when I first bought the bike. Ran out of fuel why too soon. I found out later that I had to fill up both sides of the fuel tank by removing both caps. If the 05 has a similiar tank as the 03 you must fill both sides of the tank. On my 03 the cap on the left side of the tank is left hand threads and must be turned to the right to remove it. I'm not sure about your 05 but if you haven't been filling up both sides of the fuel tank then that could be why you're running out of fuel so fast.

Same crap happend to me,the first few times I filled up it was only taking 2.5 gallons,I said WTF,than realized that the left cap came off and I can cram in about 4 gall. than I was all happy again,Bottoms upp

Are you turning the right way?

Get your self a good strip of rubber to wrap around the cap and take a set of Channel Locks to it. Don't squeeze to hard just enough so that you don't slip.

Give that a whirl.

Like was said b4 make sure your turning it the right way,opposite of the right side,clockwise to loosen,ccw to tighten,good luck,have a couple drinks b4,during, and after.Bottoms upp
