If you scavenge your oil you will use 4 to 5 quarts of oil total. If you have two oil coolers then figure on another quart. Add oil slowly until you either see it in the bottom of the oil tank fill tube or you reach your dipstick full line. Make sure your checking the level with the bike in the upright position.I drained all the oil and even pumped out any old oil that was left, including in the two oil coolers. Also replaced oil filter.. I added initially 3 quarts but ended up adding 4. No level in the dip stick yet.Bike was on kick stand. Ran engine for at least 5 minutes, oil pressure between 20-30 psig on idle and no red oil light came on. Level not seen. What do I do? Add more until the dipstick level is reached? I have a feeling I am just there, a bit more. Need feedback on this.

Well the manual says if you have a dipstick check the level on the dipstick with the bike on the kick stand. I personally feel the dipstick is a convienience thing not a standard. The service manual stipulates when changing the oil to look for the oil to enter the bottom of the fill tube when the bike is in the upright position. The dipstick is more for when your at the gas station and want to do a quick oil check without having to hold the bike up and push it back and fort to look for the oil.Hi Kapt..thanks for the advice...One thing..I thought the oil level on
my bike (mastiff 2009) was to be taken with it tilted on the kick stand.
Yep..Just finished adding the top off. It came out to a total of 4.6. Just like ye all said..:up:I changed mine over the weekend and was wondering where the hell it was going; ended up with 4.5 after the scavenge but once you start to see oil on the stick, slow down on the adding.
:2thumbs:And if you do over fill... use a turkey baster and suck it right out of the oil bag.
