I was just curious to see what everyone uses on their tires? is there something better than that armor all shit that collects dust? I have tried this Skull Shine tire stuff that I have....seemed to work alright....

Dave,
do you mean for a show? I don't use anything to make the tires shine. I think it's dangerous to do that and then ride it.

Just cleaning in general. The only time I used that Skull Shine stuff...was when I got some shit on the side of the tire....but I have never done the whole tire...just a little wipe down on the side wall. I haven't used anything on them since then.....thats why I was curious if other people use tire stuff on their tires or not.

I prefer to use blondes. Preferably one on each tire for a better rub-out

I used to ride a Suzuki and made the mistake of putting tire shine on the tires one summer day after cleaning it up. The first hard left turn I made at a light the front tire almost went out from under it. I slammed my foot on the pavement and got it back up before busting it. I won't make that mistake ever again. If I had done that on this Ridgeback, it would have been a mess. Tire shine + two wheels = dangerous!

Dave, Don’t take this the wrong way, But the only 2 people in the world I know that use tire shine on motorcycle tires are you and my wife. And trust me my wife doesn’t use it anymore after I got back from my ride a ripped her ass. First turn I almost put her down on the pavement.

Just keep em clean and ride a lot! That way the tires never get old enough to look dirty.

Truth be told......

Now, in the "Believe it or not" catagory, there actually ARE tire shine products out there that are WATER BASED, and that dry to the touch (unlike silicone based products). If your not into Detailing, you may not be aware of these. I've used them on a number of bikes that I've owned in the past with no reservations about riding what so ever. Never had a problem. Apply to the sidewall with an appropriate applicator sponge, and allow to dry. Here are a couple examples. I've used the one from Griot's before. Kind of messy to apply, but if you go slow and take your time you get good results.

YES..... Silicone based tire shine products are a big NO NO on bike tires, even just for a show.....:loony:
