Okay so once again i have a 02 pitbull with a 107 s&s motor. Before i bought the bike the owner told me he replaced the starter. Once again the starter is dead should i install a compression release valve along with the the new starter or just buy a kick ass starter

Having the comp releases would be nice and add life to any starter. Otherwise, just go with a 2.0 or 2.4KW starter.

I had an 03 Pitbull .... same issue, just pull the trigger and get the compression releases

Not sure the 02's have the heads with the compression release bolts in the top of them though

Put you an easy start cam in that thing and be done with it...:D
I agree will probably be an easier install then wiring in comp releases. Especially if you don't have the correct heads. Will save you $$$

Pardon my ignorance but what's an easy start cam?
From S&S:

ONE
Each of the two exhaust cam lobes are equipped with a spring loaded compression release lobe on the “heal” of the cam at the point where the valve would normally be fully closed.

TWO
The lobe holds the exhaust valve open slightly at cranking speed. This releases some of the compression, making the engine much easier to crank.

THREE
Once the engine starts, and rpm increases, the compression release lobe is centrifugally retracted and the engine runs normally, with full compression, and without any loss in performance. This allows a stock starter and battery to start nearly any engine.

Maybe someone will correct me, but I think the S&S easy start cams will not work on the EVO style engines, such that are in most Big Dogs. I believe they work in the 1999 up twin cam style engines.

That being said, I just helped push start a 117" Big Dog that had a bad starter. It took us 3 guys pushing(and one riding) and 3 tries to get it started....not an easy deal.

KSMike is correct the easy start cams are for twin cam motors, and the big starters
are larger in body size and will hit the speedometer sensor where the battery post
connects to the starter. Compression releases and a higher cranking amp battery.

I am waiting for my starter to come in right now, first I tried a rebuilt thunderheart but it wouldn't roll my bike over so I went with an Ultima 1.75kw because I
couldn't shoehorn a spyke in there. The Ultima is only 3/4" longer than the stock starter and Jireah has them new for $135.
