I recall reading several threads about how riding in wet weather affects our bikes. Is this true for all years?

Also, the shrink wrapping how to is easy to find but I also recall seeing a thread about sealing up other electronics with clear silicone, but I can't find that one now.

Some Silicones are somewhat conductive, so No. Plus if you've ever need to get into it, silicone will be a pain.
I'd still use Dielectric Grease and Heat shrink tubing. Get it at NAPA or Radio Shack, use heat gun, blow dryer, or torch "Carefully"!
Check out this and others. :2thumbs:

Dielectric grease at a minimum in all electrical connections. The heat shrink is just icing on the cake.
