Washing the dog...

Ok this might be a dumb question but as a new dog owner I must ask. So how should I wash my bike without screwing something up, power washer or just water hose? And what kind of degreaser or just dish soap? Should I avoid washing any certain parts?

Well...if you have to wash the dog some people cover the handle bar controls with a plastic bag. One thing for sure try not to get to much if any water on the electrical controls. Stay away from the seat and under it. Me...I never use a hose. If I do need to clean the Dog with water I use a controlled wash. Like a wet rag or sponge that I do a little part of the Dog at a time. I make sure the water don't run all over the place. As for what type of soap to use NO dish soap! It will in time ruin the pant. Use whatever they recommend for a motorcycle. They sell degreaser for motorcycles. I think one brand is S100. Sold at Harley shops. Well enjoy the ride.

Ok thank you!! I just got it and it obviously had a oil leak at one time there's oil and dirt stuck in places. But I will definetly be careful.

mine is an '07 and it has never been "washed". spot clean it with what is necessary and then use detailer's spray and a good wax.

Those hard to reach areas you can buy those long q-tips. Or sometimes I may use a screwdriver or something thin and wrap a soft cloth around it. Then you should be able to reach those "hard to reach" areas.

I have washed my '09 K9 since I bought it new as well as the '99 Bulldog I bought new until I bought the K9. I use the S100 to get all the heavily soiled areas then a careful washing with a car sponge. Followed by a light rinse(avoiding the hand controls and speedo). Then crank the commercial backpack leaf blower and blow the bike bone dry. With this technique I have never had any electrical problem from either bike as a result of washing it. I have also been caught in heavy rain with no issues. Note that I have filled all connectors with dielectric grease as preventative maintenance.

Just my thoughts, but since you recently aquired the Dog you may wanna avoid the hose until you can do a good weather proofing on the lights and conections. For your LED boards you can use a marine conformal spray. Dielectiric grease and heat shrink for your connectors. Once you do this the hose can be used. Hell I take mine to the car wash. I'm careful not to hit the hand controls too much and they do have a air nozzle to dry it off....but I've never had an issue with water. Gotta ride in the rain sometimes so its best to waterproof.

No offense to H2o, but water begins corrosion. What you can't wipe up that trickles down into [pick a rust to start] looking like it sat outside. Where as butcher only butchers wood not bike.

1. Electrics do not like water down a switch, especially not weather-pac'd. Here is the, 'my winker is leaking water out the lens. Will my bulb rust or should I let it go and deal with it never coming out down the road?'

2. Water wiped over chrome is that chrome is porous. What fell thru can have water push up the chrome; as rust is the result you mix water and metal.

3. Only way to keep it looking like new is zero wash. The liquid clean up in a spray is bad enough, but is controllable. You call it.

I wash my scoots all the time, but I use an air force blaster to dry it off. It puts out warm dry air to help the water evaporate quickly to prevent water stains.

Allright well I talked to a local who details bikes. He has been using this stuff called P21S Total Auto Wash. Said it worked great and safe on billet. I had already spent hours using a detail brush, micro fiber towels and spray wax and thought it was already pretty clean. Bought some of this p21s stuff sprayed it on the engine, forks and wheels, let it set for 3 minutes and hosed it off. Man was I surprised on how much dirt and crap came off onto to concrete. The wheels were sparkling and chrome was shining great. Used the air compressor and blew all the excess water off and man does it look a million times better. Just passing the info along.. Btw this stuff is kinda pricey but it was worth it too me

Wash and shine your bike????

Aint that what an ole lady is for??? :whoop:

Yeah I wish.

I never use the hose or water higher than than the bottom of the side covers, but I'll spray the wheels tires and fenders clean. And yeah leaf blower to dry, 80mph to finish off the drying!

I ride in the rain a lot, and wash the scoot a lot, my hound loves the water. I do cover the running lights and the handle grips with latex gloves and a plastic bag under the seat covering all electricals. Have not heard of any issues here in the NW involving dogs and water.

Heres what I do should be no different from your big dog , I have a fully custom chopper I show. I use garden hose & Harley davidson spray comes in a can put that on let it sit a few spray it all over frame motor swing arm dont spray it on paint it wont do nothing but I wouldn't. Then you let it sit while that is sitting I use a good wax liquid cleaner mix it w/ a bucket of warm water and do fenders , tank , oil tank , wheels etc. Then I just hold hose to the bike and let the water run outta it I don't spray the bike cause you don't want to move a wire or somthing cause of force of the water hitting it or some goofy crap.

Then I use a leaf blower to dry the bike off. Then mothers aluminum polish on wheels and do it with a high speed drill evenly then take it off with a micro fiber clothe. Then show wax on all paint and chrome including the wheels everything all the chrome and paint on the bike. Hope that helps you.
